We are constantly told that racism and discrimination in general are not really a big problem.

The story above shows that isn't the case.

Anybody got other examples of the barriers some people have to overcome to be treated the same as everybody else?

Things are probably different now, but my personal experience of a major financial institution is when they did a diversity survey. They came back with the news that we were a diverse employer, just that the number of ethnic minorities we employed was below the percentage of ethnic minorities in Edinburgh.

So that's alright then?
