Shocking news of his passing this morning.
One of my food heroes when I first entered the trade.
59 its no age. I was a bit saddened when i read it. He was a great character

Sorry to hear this, met him years ago when Rhodes at Jenner’s opened on Rose St.
Not seen him for a while on tv, he was a fixture for a long time. Feel for his friends and family, no age to be leaving.

They're all going today. Jonathan Miller and Clive James now.

I think the character maybe detracted from what a good chef he was in a way. Multiple Michelin stars is not to be sniffed at but was arguably more famous for his hair.
Marcus Waering was very complimentary on TV earlier. He said many chefs of the era were classically trained in France, as was Rhodes, and focused their cuisine down that road. Rhodes took classic British dishes your granny made and made them something special and others started to follow suit. If you consider in the early 90s the British food scene was very much still bordering on a laughing stock. That certainly isn't the case now and Rhodes played his part in that.
RIP.
