The final is live on bbc 2 at 8pm and also streaming on iplayer.

Arguably two of the biggest teams in South America in River Plate and Flamengo. Flamengo are the most supported club on the planet apparently.

This should be very exciting. River looking for back to back Libertadores titles but Flamengo look strong, managed by former Benfica boss Jorge Jesus.

River like to build play through defence and regista Enzo Perez and like to pass their way through while the Brazilians untraditionally favour an expansive pressing game. Two different styles, two incredible clubs and two enemy nations - should be a cracker!

Should be a good game, definitely the best 2 sides South America have produced in years, genuine quality

It's a rare treat getting this on terrestrial TV.

I was reading Tim Vickery the other day talking about how weak the domestic leagues in South America are in the last few years, the best players are still going to Europe en masse but now even their average players are choosing the MLS over domestic clubs. Particular problem in Argentina where the economy is on its knees with hyperinflation.

It will be interesting to see the quality on the pitch.

That can’t be true about Flamengo surely?

Barca, Real Madrid and man united are massive global brands and surely got more fans than them?!

The methodology behind how you count 'supporters' is very dodgy. Chelsea and Juve both claim to have 'over a million fans' in the Far East market. These figures are made up of online clicks, ie-you are called a supporter of Juve if you entered a competition to get tickets to watch Juve on their preseason tour! A lot of these folk were drawn by the chance to see CR7, the Chinese fan base is generally motivated by the cult of celebrity, not a love of Juve. Same with Man U and Liverpool and the Spanish clubs; the size of their following over there is massively exaggerated.

Anyway, the answer is Hearts as we all know.

Yeah, I imagined there was more context to it than just Flamengo had more fans. That’s really what I was looking for, wasn’t meaning to just disagree for the sake of it.

Is it based on number of bodies through the turnstiles or something or just a general point that **** loads of people support them?

I was there in September and was lucky enough to take games in at La Bombanera and La Monumental.
River don’t really scratch at the atmosphere in and around Boca.
Something I learned; River initially came from La Boca district and moved uptown.....

Great stat they came up with at halftime. Apparently there is 1 European player in the Argentinian league but 1800 Argentinian players are registered as playing abroad. Must be a constant rebuilding job.

Not the greatest game as a spectacle but at the moment River Plate have Flamengo in their pocket.

The stadium may look odd but it's quite a common design in the neighbouring countries of Colombia, Peru and Ecuador. Some of the major club sides from this region play at grounds like this such as Barcelona Guayaquil who are a massive club in Ecuador, their ground is something else.

In regular polling, approximately 1 in 4 Brazilians follow Flamengo, so that's around 50 million fans for starters!

Some people may not have heard of Gremio but they are one of 2 major clubs from Brazils deep south, they have been a top team in the past and play at a very modern 50,000 seater ground, perhaps the best in all of Brazil but for some reason the older of Porto Alegres' stadiums was chosen as a venue in the 2014 world cup.

Wow, that was daylight robbery. Flamengo were so bad for 70 minutes I doubt they would have given Hibs much bother, River only have themselves to blame though, to only score once in a game they were strolling was poor.

It was a poor game overall to be honest, not much of an advert for South american football, even with the dramatic finish.
