Very interesting! 300 Guineas would have been a fortune then.
As an aside, the ruins of Drumsheugh House have safe cellars which were used as an air raid shelter in WW2.

I've just found out a lad who stayed in the flat I grew up in Newhaven, who died 22.2.1917 aged 33. A royal Scot. Amazing.

Excellent link so thanks. I have stood at our War Memorial many times looking at the names little realising that one 18year old laddie in the Argyll's lived in the house I currently occupy. Must find out more.
