Is it rangers or the rangers though?

What's the latest?

HMRC got it wrong all along and The Sevco (or whatever they are now called) are due a rebate of about £100m and an apology.

Nothing like this ever leads to anything significant for that rotten bunch of fannies. It will be David Murray in ***** or something like that. If it was sensational it would be also covered by the sun.

If they're in danger of liquidation again, you better get Daffy prepared.

Boris is going to give them a tax rebate equivalent to all the money they cheated their majesty out of?

They've got lying to and cheating the monarch in common.

The story says they were probably due about £50m less in tax due to an HMRC error and the true payment would only be around the £20m mark.

Only because HMRC have decided it’s no longer worthwhile chasing them for the penalties. If the were still alive then HMRC would be after the full amount.

It is reported that the head of the department dealing with it, John Paul O'Donnell had inadvertantly added a couple of zeros to the bottom line figure and although this was checked by his supervisors, Fergus O'Flaherty and Sean South, the mistake went unnoticed.... until now.

It does make the last seven years even more hilarious when you consider it may have been unnecessary

I was hoping this thread was about to announce another liquidation.

They liquidated the company that was due the money so there’s nowhere to rebate (I assume)?

As far as I'm concerned, this is the definitive summary of what has happened.

Surely any money would go to creditors?

I don’t think the company has been wound up yet. I think it is still in liquidation.

No idea - I’d like to think so.

I didn’t know that - thought it was closed.

This was announced in June by HMRC which begs the question, why bring out the story just now?

That is what will happen :agree:

Good thing all round to be honest. Rangers got pumped to the tune of a lot more than they should have, folded and then found out it should have been a lot less. Then the creditors got more money :greengrin

Might give dodgy Dave a few pennies of his own to “invest” though.

I doubt creditors will get much at all by the time BDO have finished. £20m in fees so far.

Only £2 million of the amount is an error. The rest is money they HMRC have decided not to pursue (Late payment penalties, additional interest etc) so I doubt this money has been collected yet so the liquidated Rangers won't actually get any actual money back.

I love the idea of the original incarnation being reincarnated and a big argument ensuing about who owns Ibrox etc.

I know it's a fantasy but just imagine the carnage. 😁

Will it still be okay to call them Sevco and / or the now defunct Glasgow rangers?

That's all I'm worried about.

I don't think it's a rebate, just a reduction in what they owe.
