Don’t think we could afford him now, had our chance to get him on a free

I think there will be teams queuing up to sign him and our chance has gone sadly.

Should have signed him in the summer.

DU are probably gambling on being able to sell him in the summer and recouping what they’ve outplayed this season for him.

Think I read today they have made a loss of £3 million, would fit in with your theory

Was in the paper the other day that they’ve got a wage bill of 130% odd of their turnover.. he must be a huge chunk of that to have ended up there you’d think.

Could have had him for nothing, he was a free agent in the summer.

He will get them promoted then go for millions. While we have the Vegan Nish.

I’m actually surprised it’s not more to be honest. Nobody in there squad jumps out as being worthy of a big wage yet they’re at a 130% wages to turnover.. I genuinely thought he’d possibly be on something like £7-8k as ridiculous as that would be.

Nowhere near what our duds are on if recent reports are to be believed

Even if we were interested would he come under the current regime. Maybe a year ago. At this current time I think he’d be wise avoiding us

Would have been a brilliant signing, too late though. He’ll get United promoted and they’ll get a healthy fee. If he’s on £4K a week he’s certainly worth it.

They said it was between 4 and 6 - so sounded a bit speculative. They are gambling big this season. That wages to turnover is approaching Romanov proportions.

When we turn our nose up at this guy for free and spend £350k on Doidge it makes you wonder why our head of recruitment is getting a promotion.

Maybe because the manager insisted on Doidge being the striker he wanted. As has been said many times, he has the final say on who signs.

Surely if that was the case the manager would be out the door by now?

We've spent circa £300k on a striker who can't score goals and now has a re-sale value of zilch when we likely xould have secured Shankland with a similar deal, criminal🙈

I had suggested on the scotland v san marino thread that if he keeps scoring then he wont be in scotland next season and was shot down in flames, was mentioned than he was only playing against san marino and perspective was needed, the guy can score goals and have no doubt he will play at a higher level, I'm sure there will be a few teams up here gutted they didnt sign him

Absolutely infuriating when pretty much every fan can see a bargain like Shankland in our midst but the people that matter let the opportunity slip through their fingers :brickwall:brickwall:brickwall

Has it been confirmed that PH pushed for Doidge against the recruitment teams advice and he has final say on signings?

No, it’s just easy for fans to blame Heckingbottom as he will be away soon rather than the recruitment team who are getting promoted.

You think? I would say he costs us at least £2k a week in wages and the £350k fee takes us above the £4K a week Shankland costs.

You would say that. Remember though the £350k is also made up.

Did you hear the rumour about the signing on fee Shankland was looking for and that being the reason Aberdeen, Hearts and Hibs didn’t proceed?

And the desperation to try and prove the Doidge deal was a bad one continues aswell. Nobody knows what we paid for him yet if you want to stick the boot in then it’s £350k and £6k a week.

If he came for free and is only getting paid £1500 a week then we got a bad deal. Into November now and not a single league goal.
