I've had a look online to see if you can just PATG (or at ticket pods) on Saturday but haven't found anything other than buying a ticket in advance.

Does anybody know if it's possible to just turn up on the day?

I always just turn up on the day and pay at the stadium at Hamilton - my recollection is that they have a pay at the gate turnstile rather than having to pay for a ticket from some office nearby. But that could have changed - there is usually some announcement the day before the game.

Ideally.

I know when it’s a mixture of PATG at some places fans sit anywhere which doesn’t help.

Unfortunately at grounds where they don’t give PATG punters a ticket with a seat number that will happen.

It’s no fun for them either moving four times and not knowing until well after 3 at times if anyone is coming for the seat they’re in.
