Not looked, but can it work?
Spitting Image was incendiary when it started. Not that it got less biting as it went on, but it was a victim of its own success and it's impact wained to zero.
It destroyed the bubble that authority had enjoyed for, well, ever (although we can obviously only view that in terms of the last 100 years or so). I remember the Sundays going mental on the day the queen mother puppet was scheduled to appear for the first time (and she did).
Watching it was a badge of disrespect for the way things were. But it burst the bubble. It made us distrust politicians, media and all, so by the early 90s it wasn't funny. There was no shock value anymore. It was accepted by then that our "betters" were just a bunch of chancers.
And that was 25 years ago! How can you lampoon our politics today? Even if we weren't having to deal with the nonsense we are in this country just now, the internet has dealt the final blow to the credibility of politicians. A puppet mimicking that won't be funny at all.
That said, I did say I've not read the article. I'll deserve it explaining why my take is wrong! :-)

I never really gave it any great thought, just thought I'd post a link to the story.

Chief, sorry. And I didn't read what you posted, but went off on one! It wasn't meant to be negative.

"And what about the vegetables?" probably the best comedy feed of the 20th century. :not worth

It was good the first 5 years. Then went downhill. Will only be good again if nothing is off limits. i.e. going after Prince Andrew and his peado friend. If they stay clear of such stuff then it will be crap.

The French version, which took the form of a spoof TV news programme and was shown mon-fri 10 minutes per show, only finished last year after 30 years non stop.

There are lots of nice South Africans, as it turns out.

It's had it's day. The same concept might work in today's world with computer generated imaging, but puppets are old hat.

It's not the puppets that will make or break the show.
It's the satire. If it's funny, it'll succeed and I hope it does.

Me too, it'll need to be quite close to the bone though.

My mum and dad used to tape it for me as it was on after my bedtime.
I remember getting up one morning and asking them what happened to the previous night's recording of Spitting Image, they said that this episode went too far and that I wasn't allowed to watch it. They had still taped it though, and hidden the tape on a high shelf. It became the holy grail of tv, to get it down and get it watched without them finding out. Anyway they caught me watching it, promptly confiscated it and gave me a bit of a clip round the ear.
For a wee boy of about 9 or 10 it was the most amazing television ever and I will always regret not being able to see that episode to its conclusion as it was pure filth.

I loved it as a wee boy, even if the satire sometimes went over my head. My favourite puppets:
Crazy Jimmy Savile. Back when the nation just regarded him as an eccentric nutter.
Ian Paisley, complete with spiked dog collar and screaming at everyone.
Norman Tebbit, always sinister and dressed in gay leather get up.
Roy Hattersley spitting everywhere.
Ronald Reagan completely clueless.
Kenneth Baker as a slug and covered in slime
Great show.
