Thought he slotted into centre back perfectly. Wouldn't be against him playing there again!

Was just about to start a thread. Another one with folk in his back all the time and he manages to ignore the negativity. Very good today in an unfamiliar position.

He's improved massively under Heckingbottom and arguably should be in the DM role.

Today was what Whittaker is there to do, cover where required. More often than not, he does that well.

One thing about him is that he’s really calm and I thought that was a massive help to the rest of them today.

He's always been a good technical player. If he's playing in the middle then he's less likely to be exposed for pace. He's a very useful guy to have in a squad. Well played Whitts.

Yes feared the put him out wide and bring James into centre. PH got it that he has no pace now.

He did well in a solid defensive unit. Fair play to him for sticking through after the inordinate amount of criticism he's had these last couple of years.

Absolutely no one got on his back today.

They would’ve looked a bit stupid given how he played. Like the woman behind me who was “walking out if he brought Whittaker on”

I though when he came on, James was going to slot into CB alongside Hanlon but I thought he was excellent at CB. Didn’t put a foot wrong and solid throughout.

I’ve said it many times before. He was a revelation for us 12-15 years ago and still has plenty ‘credit’ in the bank from that for any lapses he may have now. The guy has the experience and that counts for so, so much.

He's played well on the right of a 3 for us before I thought he'd struggle in a 2.

Whittaker is a brilliant player to have at Hibs - wholehearted, composed and versatile. He might not be a first pick but a brilliant player to be able to call upon when you're in a spot of bother.

Better at center back, no getting exposed for pace out wide. No doubt he has a lot of football about him but his legs and pace are away. Might be his new position

He is just a class player and always good to see him get the knockers off his back, more skill than most and very cool under pressure.

I've been one of Whittaker's biggest critics but maybe a move to CB could be perfect for him now that he doesn't have the pace but still has the brain (like the Sauzee CM to CB move).

As have I, his days as a defensive full back are gone but he was excellent today & meybes the manager has found a new role for him. I'd be more than happy with that.

Today’s game suited him at CB as Hibs sat deep and Celtic played high up so his lack pace was never exposed. Against lesser teams their ability to counter attack would leave him toiling. But today he did very well and proved a good emergency CB

Could play central sweeping role if we ever go with a back three. Calm head, reads the game well, comfortable with both feet and can bring the ball forward with the odd stroll out of defence to pick a pass. There was a lot of blootering it anywhere today but we saw it out with a gutsy display.
Very handy player to have around.

He's nowhere near as bad as some people think that he is.

Don't get me wrong he's far from perfect but he's been reliable more often than not.

Exactly that. When Sauzee first came to Hibs he was a world class midfielder but as he slowed down he became more of a sweeper and did so to great effect. I’d be delighted if Whittaker could do the same sort of job for us as his career draws to a close.

Should we be considering a sweeper system. It's probably out of fashion these days but Whittaker seems made for the role, al la Sauzee.

Our CF was great today too. In their faces all game and won his fair share in the air. Just wish we had someone in midfield to play with SA. Some of his stuff was brilliant but I must say he went down a tad too easy a couple of times in the second half. Billy, can we can the Hammer back at Xmas ?

Whitts was very good yesterday. He has been lots of times since his return. He is the nearest we have to an Efe type we have and that type of calm under pressure is needed to start playing football on the deck. I think he should be in the DM slot alongside Hallberg

Quite possibly his best game of the season, yesterday.
