Aberdeen were unbeaten domestically that season when they arrived at Easter Road to face Hibs in a League Cup tie - two late goals, a cracker from Cummings and an even better solo effort from Malonga sealed the tie. A magnificent night’s entertainment.

Amazing scenes in that game. What I would do to see a team like that again just now.

IIRC Dons were top of the SPL and we were a lowly Championship side great strike by Jase and King Dom goes on a mazy 2-0

Edit!

Even back then The Sheep were diving bassas

Not just top, eight wins from their first eight league games. They were fresh off having just smashed Hearts at Tynecastle too.

The exact kind of performance that connected the support and club. Players fighting for the jersey and trying to play the right way.

That hibs team would destroy this current eleven. Destroy

Precisely. What a fantastic team that was! The unity and togetherness between the management, team and fans was very strong. Every single one of those players were proud to play for this club.

Just a pity we now have a team and management full of imposters that look as if they don’t really care.

I went along that night just hoping we didn't get hammered. Came away bouncing.

That team is literally everything we’re not just now. Very strong young energetic squad that knew what it meant to play for Hibs.

Everyone in that team bar Oxley would start for us now. We also had Fyvie come January too.

Fyvie must’ve been injured as he signed the previous January mate.

That was the night I really felt we were ‘back’

No holding midfielder I notice.

3 central defenders allows your midfield to be more attacking. Suits the current squad down to a t also.

Yeah you're right, thought it seemed off when I typed it!

I was the same, we had a real swagger about us and I always felt confident we would get the win especially in the big games.

three home stands belting out Do Do Do, Dominic Malonga is firmly etched in my memory, at least for another few years anyway

Thanks for sharing, I have just watched that with my 13 year old son, brings back great memories...the current squad should take note of what an exciting Hibs team looks like, Jason looked really sharp that night.

John McGinn
Scott Allan
Dylan McGeough
Martin Boyle
David Gray
Liam Henderson
Liam Fontaine
Fraser Fyvie
Dom Malonga
Farid Alagui
Darren McGregor
Marvin Bartley

To name but a few. By god Stubbsy could pick a player for us.

Now in the premier with our big transfer budget........

Wasn't going to watch it, too depressing to think how far we've sunk.

Glad I changed my mind though.

This game was a real turning point. It was the first time in a while I felt we could compete in a one off game with the best teams. We were superb and scored two quality goals. Malonga's mazy :top marks

One of my favourite nights in a long time. That game partnered with the absolute dismantling of Dundee United in the next round made me believe that we could beat anyone. If we played Celtic I'd have turned up thinking we could beat them.

How have we sank so far from that group?

Unreal isn't it, genuinely feels like yesterday. Such fond memories of the club at that time everything was just right, despite being in the championship haha

Thought i would compare.

Oxley Marciano
McGregor Porteous
Hanlon Hanlon
Fontaine Jackson
Gray Naismith
McGeouch Vela
McGinn Hallberg
Henderson Allan
Stevenson Stevenson
Boyle Boyle
Cummings Kamberi

Bartley Mallan
Malonga Doidge
Stanton Horgan
Carmichael Middleton
Reguero Maxwell
Dunsmore James
Martin Murray

Also have McGregor, Gray, Slivka, Newell and Shaw.

Lennon, Heck and the recruitment team have all failed miserably replacing our midfield.
However, I find it hard to look at the above and not think a decent manager who can motivate and set up the players properly can get the team up the league.
Add in a quality midfielder as well and things would start to look a lot better.
