I've just watched her on Hardtalk. She came across as genuine, principled and trustworthy.

She's an ex-Tory who wishes she hadn't been a Tory.

I agreed with everything she said.

Why shouldn't I like her politically? :dunno:

Is she still an independent or has she joined the Lib Dems?

I guess the question is what terrible stuff did she vote for and support as part of the Tory party over the last few years? And does her change of direction undo that?

I found it a bit sickening that Amber Rudd is getting so much praise. She tried to sell herself as a moderate Tory during her campaign to lead the party and talked a good game about how terrible no deal was etc. When Boris got in she was more than happy to throw all that under a bus to stay in power.

Somehow she didn't realise what everyone else did - that he was reckless right wing nut job who couldn't be trusted.

Every single Tory or Lib Dem MP during 2010-16 helped inflict austerity on this country which, coupled with the recession, is the reason we have such the toxic political climate we have now.

It's a cold day in hell before I ever think positively of any of them.

I suppose it all depends on how sincere she, and others like her, are. People can change, and it takes a big person to admit they were wrong, especially in public. If she does that, and opposes the policies she once supported, fair enough; but if she merely has a disagreement about EU membership whilst retaining her fundamental Tory ideas, that won't wash. She has a lot of bridges to build.

Allen became an MP in 2015.

She voted for the Tax Credit cuts because the Tory whip, but she actually spoke out against them in Parliament.

A strange position to take, I grant you, but given that she was a novice MP, it's more understandable, and I imagine that she regrets voting that way now.

Her Wikipedia entry is quite interesting. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heidi_Allen

You give them too much credit. They would never have hut anywhere without the banks, and a supine electorate.

Actions speak louder than words. She’s started well and is saying the right things. I agree she was quite impressive last night.
