Ryder Cup golfer Brian Barnes has died aged 74 from cancer after a short illness. He was best known for beating Jack Nicklaus twice in a day during the 1975 match against the United States.

Always remember his reputation for drinking on and off the course.

Sad news, one of my dads favourites.

Aye.....I remember watching him at Dalmahoy back in the day, walking up the fairway with a can of beer!

I worked in the on-course catering ( beer tents ) for many British Opens and could relate a few good stories about Brian Barnes. Some character. RIP

God I remember that. He won the tournament whatever it was called. A young Sevvy was in it.
The beer swilling act didn't look too great. I think he was cocking a snook at the authorities.
