Seems a good laugh and a good lad. Undr The Cosh podcast, some funny stories. Most the Hibs stories are near the end. Apparently Lennon wanted to give him another year and the club took it out his hands.

He wouldn’t have been on pennies at Hibs.

I remember that summer the big clamour was to get Cummings tied down to a new deal - perhaps the board only had enough budget to give one what they wanted.

Didn’t they leave the same summer?

He struggled in the Championship in terms of movement, goals and assists. Glad the club took it away from Lennon if he thought he should get another year, Nice guy and looks like someone who could be good in teh dressing room but was finished at the top level.

I thought he played a big part in our promotion season. Goals against Hearts and Aberdeen along the way. We finished 4th that following season anyway.

Did well in the Championship and was released at the right time.
Absolutely perfect timing for a change.

Another year would have been about right. His type of game where he bullied defenders and held it up whilst chipping in with the odd important goal was valuable and never really been replaced in the top flight. The likes of Lewis Allan would have also benefited from another year round him.

But the board told us the manager has the final say on players. Allegedly

I don't doubt he might have had a great effect in the dressing room but he score 1 goal for every 4.4 games, and 1 assist for every 5.5 games for a team that dominated pretty much every team in the league without scoring enough for that domination.
At the moment the much maligned Doidge is a goal in every 1.58 games in the cup both against Championship sides and an assist in every 1.96 Leagues games. Those are scored in a team that is getting heckled at every opportunity and not yet clicked.

You think Doidge is better than Holt?

I would've kept him for another year, he would have given us a different type of option up front and he scored against Premiership teams in the cups.

Holt seems to have changed his story a bit since May.

Revealing that he had been “asking the club for ages” if they wanted to keep him on, Holt said: “I wasn’t getting an answer. I’d scored in a 1-1 draw in the last game of the season at home to St Mirren, and it was a real party atmosphere.

“I loved the celebrations, but I also just wanted to get everything sorted.”

Holt headed back home to Norfolk with his future still uncertain, but keen to extend his stay in the Scottish capital.

“A week later I read on my phone that I’d been released. No one had called to tell me, which was really disappointing,” he added.

Not had time to tell but I didn't rate Holt at all. Seems a great character but not enough movement, never won many balls in the air(less than Doidge or Bryan Graham) and never got into the danger area enough. I doubt Doidge will have the career that Holt did but imo Holt just scraped pass marks at best for us and if he was cheap that is fine. If he was on a good wage we could have done better.

Holt was a bit of a chest thumper, wind up merchant and cheeky chappy which seems to be what Hibs fans enjoy these days. Nothing wrong with that but I'm more interested in the job they do on the pitch. Holt was mediocre for us but a great player in his day, which had passed when he arrived.

I liked Holt and he did a good job for us in the time he was here. Not buying Lennon's line to him though, that sounds to me like Lennon was being cute. If he really wanted him he'd have used his budget on him. Simple as that. He wasn't the priority so didn't. Don't think Lennon can blame that squarely on the Club. Deflection tactics from Lennon imo - one of his specialisms... (and before anyone starts I was a big fan of Lennon too, doesn't mean he's beyond criticism)

Loved listening to that, especially to hear him recall Sunshine On Leith after doing Hearts 3-1. Talked the game up well and clearly loved his time with us. I remember thinking he definitely could of done us a turn for 1 more season in the Prem and being disappointed he was let go. Thankfully he isn't bitter about it.

Loved big Grant Holt! His rollie-polly jump and dab after scoring in the derby was just excellent!
