Didn’t realise Stokes is back in Scotland. Joking aside that sounds terrible, hopefully everyone involved are safe.

Apparently some joker pushed a burning bin onto a flat roof and the whole place has gone up.
Senseless

It’s my daughters school. Can see the massive cloud of smoke out our windows.

Place has been burning for over five hours now.

It’s the additional support wing of the school which has gone up and from the pictures I’ve seen the place looks like it’s absolutely gutted.

About 40 or 50 Firefighters trying to prevent it from spreading to the main school building.

My niece goes there. Seemingly a youth is in custody for this. A bin was allegedly filled with petrol an set on fire on the roof.

My son goes to that school, could see the flames from our house at one point.

Going to move the thread to a more appropriate forum.

She's devastated, she's in tears because she now in 6th year and needs her highers and she will probably be punted to a different school with her and her friends getting split up.

I go to the school in question. 5th year, probably the most stressful year due to starting highers and I’m devastated about it. Everything gone just like that

My partner went to that school. She's quite upset about it even though she left nearly 20 years ago and is lying in bed watching live footage of it being shot by one of her fb friends.

We really have some ****ing idiots in this country. I'm really sorry for you/ relatives of you on here whose futures may well be affected by this. I remember 5th/6th year at school and it was tough enough with everything going in my favour, let alone with this sort of thing happening.

14 year old youth has been taken into police custody. 1400 pupils to be re-accommodated in the meantime and there are fears that coursework has been lost.

Absolutely heartbreaking when something as senseless as this has such an enormous impact.

The kid that’s alleged to have done it was all over social media bragging about it, my daughter knows him.

I don’t think he’ll get off lightly for this, it’s had a significant impact on a large number of pupils, but also businesses in the area that rely on the school kid’s lunchtime/after school business are going to be hit very hard as well.

Quite simply, wow. How depressing that is.

They should charge his parents too if he's got any.

Can’t agree with that. I heard today that his old man took him to the police station to face up to the consequences. I think with the best will in the world some kids will do stupid things despite their parents’ best intentions.

Probably a debate for another thread! :greengrin

I hadn’t heard about the fire until I saw this thread. My heart goes out to those affected; when I was nearly at the end of primary 7 my school burned down and we had to spend our last couple of months at a different school. The kids were spread across three other schools which must have been difficult for parents. In this case it was deliberate as well, a former pupil who supposedly had a vendetta against the head teacher.

Farming out the pupils to other High schools in the town won’t be straightforward. There has been a huge amount of housing development in Dunfermline and I would imagine that they are all at full capacity already. The poor kids might have to be shipped out to other schools in Fife. It’ll be a major logistics operation for the education authority.

The head teacher has pretty much said the same.

I did some stupid stuff when I was younger, but mostly it was spraying deodorant onto a lighter, couldn't even fathom doing this and then bragging about it.

Could community centres or similar be used to hold lessons? Its a shame for the kids who will have this part of their lives making friends and being educated in a comfortable environment taken away from them.

Kids should refuse to be split up and band together. This will affect a large portion of there studies and possibly future careers. Nobody wants to get moved schools with no friends and on top of that try and learn and study. Might sound like a childish solution, but it’s there futures. Get a bunch of cabins and make a mock school like they do when building sites are going up.

Fund raising started yesterday to raise some money towards replacing equipment etc destroyed by the fire and it’s gone Incredibly getting up over £7k in a day and a half.

Please share on social media if you can.

How much are the U.K. government contributing to this fund?

How much are the U.K. government contributing to this fund?

Going back quite a few years, my understanding was that, as insurance premiums were so astronomically high, local authorities tended to self finance damage and losses in schools. I don’t know if this applied to major damage and the partial/complete loss of buildings, as in this case. If this is the case, I think that Fife Region would receive significant funding from the Scottish Government or the UK Government.

I think charity collections are a bit premature.
