With the news that Liverpool may be forced to play their 3rd choice goalkeeper this weekend after Adrian was injured by a fan invading the pitch after the Super Cup.
What other freak injuries have their been?

I remember Santiago Canizares dropping an after shave bottle on his foot, severing a tendon and missing the 2002 WC for Spain. He was set to be number 1, 21 year old Casillas got the gloves and no one else got a look for over a decade.

There must be others dafter than that.

Kirk Clubfoot injured himself microwaving an egg, IIRC.

Think Dave Beasant might have done himself an injury with a jar of mayo, and David James did himself damage with Playstation.

IIRC Tommy Smith of Liverpool missed a European Cup Final because he dropped a pick axe and broke his toe.....

Not an injury but Mark Oxley losing a contact lense in the QF against ICT, being booked for looking for it which led to suspension and Conrad Logan coming in from a 14 month injury break is such a weird series of events.

With the added event in-between of Virtanen looking ropey as hell in his brief cameo as sub (did stoppage time only last 8 minutes? Felt like 8 hours).

If Virtanen had impressed in his cameo we might have chanced playing him in the semi and putting a young GK on the bench. And history may have been very different......

Football 365 have a top ten list of odd goalkeeping injuries my favourites were:

Mart Poom playing up front against Iron Maiden and getting hit in the genitals (Yes, the band).
A goalie dislocating his jaw from shouting at his defence too much.
Keeper getting taken out mid game by a dog (unfortunately ending his career).

Yes, the band were involved? AND Iron Maiden?

Duncan Ferguson used to sustain a number of mysterious injuries.

Well, you'd struggle to get 11 a side with just Iron Maiden.

How about Steve Morrow - Gunners captain Tony Adams attempted to lift the midfielder on to his shoulders, but dropped him to the turf after Morrow's winning goal in the League Cup. Morrow broke his arm and was rushed to hospital strapped with an oxygen mask as he left the pitch, while his team-mates went up the Wembley steps to collect the League Cup cup. He also missed the FA cup final win later in the season.

Liverpool seem to be blaming the stadium authorities for the invasion rather than their supporters.

This incident is the most bizarre self-inflicted issue since the ‘beach ball’ incident in 2009 when a supporter threw a beach ball in the pitch at the Stadium of Light and it deflected a Darren Bent shot into the net as Sunderland won 1-0.

Think he put his arm through a car window.
