VAR is ruining the game today.

I can only imagine the Old Firm controversies when it comes up here. Something to look forward to. Daily Record must be rubbing their hands.

How is VAR ruining anything? The forth official is about 2 metres away? The ref can request to view it? The officials in charge of things are the issue.

Because it holds up the game and introduces the element of uncertainty into the celebration of goals. There used to be a phrase called swings and roundabouts which meant, roughly, that things generally evened themselves out at the end of the season. Meanwhile the game flowed as it's supposed to. This is not rugby or cricket where there are breaks in play all the time.

God help us if VAR comes to Scotland. Our game is tedious enough as it is. Add in possible Old Firm bickering about VAR and we're sunk.

Eventually it will become just another part of the agony and ecstasy of the game. Imagine hearts score in the last seconds of the game to rescue an unlikely draw. We are all dumbstruck by the injustice of it all and their fans are celebrating wildly as only hearts fans can at the thought of a glorious draw. Then the referee paints a picture of tv screen in the air and points the some imaginary spot on the grass where VAR has decided an infringement took place. Who’s going wild then? All the more so at the sudden drop in adrenaline being felt at the Dunbar end.
It’s coming so we just need to embrace it

Because it is not being used properly. Other leagues are getting these things done much better. It is English referees being absolutely hopeless (to the point people think they are actively trying to sabotage it) that is the problem.

You tell me how the Falkirk hand ball and missed red card in the playoffs has evened itself out. Have we been given the money back for a year in the championship?
How has Shaw and Griffiths goals evened themselves out?

VAR is needed, the refs are still the issue though.

Not a bad record for Mourinho at Spurs so far. Quarters of the FA Cup, through to the knockouts of the Champions League and now only 1 point off 4th. Which I'm sure was 12 points when he arrived. Injuries and suspensions to crucial players along the way too.

Heung-Min Son now out for the rest of the season.

I am still 50/50 with VAR, yet to decide whether the positive elements of it outweigh the negative ones. However, I do feel that the day will come when fans stop instinctively celebrating goals when the ball hits the net and when that day comes I think it will be a sad day for the sport.

:agree: That's the clincher for me. It changes the whole experience of being in a stadium. The exhilaration of being in a big crowd when a goal is scored is what makes it. The way goals get celebrated has already changed, you can feel it. Scottish supporters are still insulated from that change because we don't have VAR.

Some big games tonight, Dortmund PSG could be good for the purist.

I tend to agree. Celebrations will become much like celebrating a penalty award with the knowledge it might be saved.

Am I right in thinking VAR is out of play if there is a break in play and a restart, such as a shy? If so I can see a lot of players desperate to see the ball out shortly after a goal or potential penalty.

Agreed, even watching a game on the TV has you instantly looking to see if the goal will be VAR’d.

VAR still requires a competent referee to make the right call from the TV pictures.

Whether you believe that the state of refereeing in this country is because of Old Firm bias or from sheer incompetence, VAR changes nothing up here.

And an emphatic win can only give St Mirren confidence for Fri game .

Man Utd must be completely raging they didn’t push the boat out.

How **** has Neymar got btw?

The hard man skin head and beard look doesn’t quite work for him, particularly when he drops like a sack of tatties when a player goes near him.

Thought he tried to make the game all about him, slowing it down so he could showboat or play worldly, pretty much every time he got the ball.

Could actually rebound on Jambos. St Midden have shown they can score goals against better team than their opposition on Friday night. Confidence will be high. 3 days to recover doing light training.

Motherwell on other hand will be down facing a derby against a pumped up Hamilton.

I mean the stadium looks only 2/3rds full. For a championship team that's poor.

McInnes seemingly "seduced" him by explaining exactly hoe he'd fit into his side. You wonder if Dylan had actually watched Aberdeen play as they have no problem in thuggish play, rotational fouling and play-acting - exactly the way McInnes had St Johnstone playing when he was there. Still it's a wage.
