Feel about the only person that isn't obsessed with this Love island crap. I surely cannot be the only one here who thinks its the biggest load of garbage going?!

Full of desperate, attention seeking, self-obsessed wannabes. The lassies seem to think the whole "bimbo", act really dumb act is dead funny and attractive and the guys ponce about thinking their gods gift. Cringeworthy stuff.

I think you'll be in a relatively safe majority here with that opinion. :greengrin

Personally, I watch it. I find it quite entertaining and an interesting social experiment, the other half watches it, and it's a conversation piece at work.

I don't necessarily agree with your critique of the people either. They're mostly normal people on it really. If I was single, better looking, and had better chat then I'd happily get paid to go to majorca with a group of models and come out the other side semi-famous. :dunno:

I don’t watch any of the reality TV pish that has blighted our screens. I am happy that when the conversation in work starts I am clueless as to what they are talking about. I watched the first ever series of big brother and that was enough for me. Saw some guy from a ranch in Bathgate on the news with his Mum talking about shaving his arse for him tonight!!!!

I think it being referred to as "reality TV" is part of the problem. People watch this kind of thing believing that it's the way things should be. When it couldn't be any further away from reality.

Can honestly say the last "reality" tv I watched was probably X factor in 2006 after I met Simon Cowell in Harrods. He came over as a really nice guy. Couldnt stick with it though and haven't watched a minute of any other reality shows since then. Its all contributing to the dumbing down of society IMO but everyone has different views. Its not for me though.

I don't really blame the contestants. Most are from the first generation who have moved on from the 'If you work hard you will get what you deserve' myth.

OK the chances of actually being a reality TV star or influencer may be a 1000/1 shot but if it fails many will be no worse off than their contemporaries who have done things the 'right' way.

Both correct and incorrect.

Intelligence can be measured in a multitude of different ways depending on what aspects of it are being looked for. Society on a whole is certainly more clued up when it comes to technology for example. On the flip side, social intelligence has taken a nose dive.

Definitely. A guy at work is in his late 20s and has never voted other than in the Brexit referendum where he voted ‘Leave’ “for a laugh”. Him and his wife just aren’t interested in current affairs.

Edit: I don’t actually mind Love Island and sometimes it even makes feel good about myself that I was blessed with intelligence rather than looks.

Tends to be watched by people in the age 18-34. Who voted overwhelmingly for staying In the EU.

Making those who don't watch it, most likely to be Brexiteers and Gammons. Unlucky.

Anyway, 2 series a year seems a bit like over kill imo.

Reckon the winners will come out of either Ovie and India and Greg and Amber.

I can't stand Love Island, even though I've never seen it.

It just sounds like it would have a few too many foreign looking people on it.

And why can't they hold it in Skegness or something, instead of giving good money to foreigners?

Since when was Skegness an island

I'm really keen not to get drawn into a Love Island debate, however..........

I mentioned I've not seen the show. Is the fact that it takes place on an island integral to the plot?

Skegness not being an island is something I am aware of. It was the first seaside resort that sprang to mind that I thought I could use to make my gammony point.

Would Barry Island be better?

Bloody Welsh.

Pesky bloody facts.

I see what's happening here.

We don't have any seaside holiday islands of our own here in the UK, so the EU are making us dependent on them for locations for shows like Love Island, that all the millennial snowflakes of today like to watch.

Next thing you know, they'll have us overrun with straight bananas and funny food.

You couldn't make it up!

I'm off to phone James O'Brien and have my arse handed to me.

I was in London a few weeks back taking the Northern Line up to Camden. A group of young ladies from Southend , up for a party weekend started to talk loudly and enthusiastically about this program and it generated a good hearted and lively discussion in the carriage. That was good to see. This even extended to an an impassioned plea for me to watch it to , because even at my age, I could enjoy it, I took it in good spirits and it just seems to be a thing that the generation ear-plugs have latched on to big style . Not wanting to generalize, but when the announcement said that the next station is Euston, the same girl asked me if that was where the rockets take off from.......
