My mistake I read the trialist 2 on the subs bench as a further 2 trialists.

See “ball over the top” got Newcastle their goal

Senior teams lost a few goals like that this season so far too, wonder if that’s a downside of the high press tactic?

It’s Newcastle’s u23 but they have a very young team and only just started back.

They have quite a few players missing as some are in China with 1st team who have lost a lot of players and some aren’t playing as going on loan.

Newcastle bench all about 16.

Good game today, really enjoyed it. Think Hibs decision to play against these sort of sides instead of reserve team sides will pay dividends
Hibs set up 433 and enjoyed most of the early pressure. Newcastle were sitting in and trying to hit Hibs on the break
Hibs almost scored in the 1st minute, United goalie had great save from Murray
United goal came from a quick attack, ball was put behind our centre backs and the quick forward slotted home

Hibs goal came from a Newcastle corner, ball got cleared and the trialist and Murray chased it. Thought out no 7 had waited too long, but tucked it away nicely

The 2nd half was more even, and United scored from a scrappy goal from Hibs point of view. Newcastle also hit the post, but Hibs had a few chances late on, Hammer and Mackie put in a few great crosses, but we just couldn’t get on the end of them. Hammer in particular was giving their right back a hard time, Oli was unlucky to get on the end of things

For quite a few of these lads it was their 1st match of the season. Hibs will also be happy with the 3 new signings first performance in a Hibs shirt.
Also managed to get 3 young lads on too in the 2nd half, Gullantes,Yeats (Scholesy) and 15 year old Jayden Fairley, all 3 did well!

A few tasty challenges too, which could have possibly resulted in cards at senior level, but Ref kept his cards in his pocket

Thought Paddy Martin was fantastic today, has put his Arbroath performance behind him and moved on. He’s a good goalie!

Development teams next game is against Linlithgow Rose away, Wednesday 24th July, 7.30pm ko

Get along if you can

The saves were outstanding by Martin today but I do worry he's too small. Yes you can name me small keepers who have been successful but I'm just surprised we don't have more keepers on the books.

At the weekend we couldn't name a full bench ?

Then today Combe is on the bench ?!

Dabrowski played for Cowdenbeath on Saturday, and will play again tomorrow which is why he wasn't involved today. And given you're only permitted 3 subs in the League Cup, surely six subs was more than enough on Saturday?

Four 'keepers taking part in first-team training sessions - Marciano, Maxwell, Dabrowski and Martin. More than enough IMO.

I was pretty impressed by the ginger boy in midfield for us, number 12 (Yeats?). Looks a really tidy player.

Steven Bradley looks like he’s got really quick feet when he’s got the ball too.

Number 7 looked decent too, very quick.

Thanks Billy!!
