Its got to happen and hopefully soon. What a great gesture it would be if the idea was put forward by Ron Gordon himself, as his first formal act as owner/ chairman. Wouldn't be at all surprised if it was.

jacomo

I think it should be the West Stand because that's the one he sits in and a nice sign over the entrance would be a fitting welcome any time he returns to the club.

It is testament to the man that he has not done this already or would expect such an honour. But it is definitely deserved.

I always said that we would know STF's true contribution to Hibs on the day he sold his stake. Now we know. Compared to the club he inherited (in huge debt and with a delapidated stadium and no training ground) he has built an unbelievable legacy.

Thank you STF. You have done us proud.

If we are going to honour STF I for one want to see it every time I go to watch Hibs. IMO naming the training centre after him would be the Hibs equivalent of Celtic shamefully 'honouring' what Jock Stein did for them by offering him a job with Celtic pools.

It has to be a stand and for me the main stand.

I agree.

I also think that the modest "Sir Tom" would be more likely to appreciate a gesture that acknowledged the contributions of his relatives alongside his own.

He probably looks back at the events of 1990 and thinks (not without some merit) that there were other people who "did" more to save us at the time - he provided the financial muscle (obviously without which none of it would have been possible).

He's been our main man for a generation so it has to be the main stand named after him.

Naming a stand is this least this club can do for him. We owe him everything. A man who stepped in at our darkest hour and saved us from the clutches of Mercer and has helped the club out countless times since. He didn't have to, he had no real connection to hibs other than being from Leith, he wasn't even a football man but his generosity and sense of community shone through.

You always think people like Sir Tom will go on forever but we're all only human. I was emotional watching and listening to his press conference for a number of reasons. For 28 of my 35 years he's been known as the saviour of our club so I've never known him as anything else. I've not heard of or spoken to a fellow Hibs fan who doesn't want either the main stand named in his honour or honoured in another way. I think it's a certainty to happen.

It shouldn’t be protracted, cost next to nothing and something the vast majority’s of fans want.

Agree. If we.are talking about putting the names ot the founder members of HSL on a shirt then Sir Tom's contribution deserves not only a prominent place on that shirt but also written into the fabric of Easter Road. Either the stadium name itself or the West Stand.

I've had doubts over the years about the way we have been run but you just cant argue about the current state of the club and the way it has been passed on. Even if STF had made money out of Hibs it would have been merited. It does, however, seem clear to me that he's not done that and the criticism from some quarters comes from his failure to publicly show this (which I quite admire). I'm all for free speech but it's time the support came together, look at the facts, and recognise what Sir Tom has done for the club.

Not for me.....he undoubtedly saved the club but has been recompensed many times over..........money from most of the catering, buying the ticket office then renting it back to the club, land deals behind the east stand

If I was a Hearts fan I'd be hurting badly too. If I was one of these 'it's a Ponzi scheme' welts I'd also be hurting. If I was just some erchie that liked to be negative about the club I'd be hurting.

Whichever way you look at it Sir Tom Farmer has been great for us and Ron Gordon's takeover is going to be fantastic for us with all that extra lolly freed up.

Great days for Hibs fans, bad times for Duncans, conspiracist weirdos and clueless muppets.

I don’t see any reason a stand couldn’t be officially renamed for the first game of the season.

Surely a time for the fans reps to assist and approach the board.

It shouldn’t be protracted, cost next to nothing and something the vast majority’s of fans want.

Yep, as noted above I’ll take this to the next meeting on the 23rd of July.

Seriously?.......

As another poster suggested, an online vote would be the way forward on this one.

Glory Glory.

I think it's always wise to wait until some time after a person passes, before erecting memorials to them. Tom Farmer is very much alive and kicking, and I suspect he would feel a bit embarrassed at having a stand named after him.

Personally, I find naming stands after people a bit crass, makes me think of "The Tony Knowles Suite" in Phoenix Nights. Just an opinion and please don't crucify me for it.
