The Donald being the first American president to step foot in North Korea is an amazing historic moment and one that could lead to lasting peace between the North and South.

Quite how the media will try and spin this into a negative story will be interesting to see.

What's everyone's thought? Does it go someway to dispel the Orange Man Bad mantra of the political left?

The North and South of what? America? Dakota? I assume you mean Korea, what has he achieved in office that has led to the most peaceful era as you call it?

Dialogue with North Korea and bringing them to the negotiating table? He has contributed to peace in the region more so than Obama.

That’s just not true. And have things improved in North Korea? Have the concentration camps closed?

North Korea are not dismantaling their nuclear weapons which would be something worth crowing about.

Yes Trump went in today and closed them all by himself... C mon you expect to much too soon be realistic here, do you think Trumps moves in Asia have been positive for the region?

Both leaders in Korea think so, why not you? Is it because you think Orange Man Bad?

He’s achieved nothing but a photo op. A talent no one doubts he has.

Yet both leaders of Korea say differently.

Strange that some can't bring themselves to acknowledge a great moment and positive actions that help bring peace to an area of the world that has been so volatile and dangerous.

It hasn’t been volatile though has it? North Korea is contained by its neighbours. It poses a threat but that has not changed.
And what are the two leaders going to say? That Trump is wasting his time?
What has he achieved?

A damn symbolic photo op none the less.

Trump, to put it mildly, has many failings but he does seem to have brought North Korea to the table. Something many people have attempted and failed to do so some credit for that is due for sure.

It may all just be down to wanting to stick one to the Chinese but none the less IF he manages to persuade the only slightly more mental Kim to de-escalate and to move onto a path of denuclearisation then significantly more kudos will be due.

Until then I don’t think we should get too excited but just dismissing the whole throng simply because it’s Trump doesn’t sit quite right either I’d say.

It's interesting that he seems to be making an effort to be seen to try and build relationships with murderous dictators and at the same time destroy long standing relations with friends and allies. All he's achieved in Korea is to make headlines. Job done then.

Absolutely it’s a symbolic photo op. Kim Jong Un could not have asked for more. Nothing legitimises him more than regular photo ops with POTUS. It confers on him Statesman status. It’s strengthens his grip on power in NK. A job well done by Trump.

It is interesting to see the Fox news comparison videos of when Obama talked about working with dictators to how they are now proclaiming Trump some noble prize winner master of peace

There was a big song and dance made when the met in Singapore when the apparent denuclearisation was agreed

That fell apart after a few days

I think it's more the Brilliant Comrade making the running than Trumpy. He's flirting with Trump to make the Chinese jealous. The last thing they want is a US friendly Korea expanding all the way up the peninsula.

NK is pretty much entirely dependent on Chinese help.

This is roughly where I am too. The boy is an absolute ring piece, but he does deserve credit for at least trying to broker a solution on the Korean Peninsula.

That being said, I think it's a little OTT to suggest that he's solved the North Korean problem already.

There is a reason no western government has sought to build a relationship with North Korea. They are a dehumanising regime, which is being validated but Trump's actions. This is exactly what North Korea have been looking for for decades. It's naive. Will not create stability, but will embolden the regime over there.

Not only is it being validated by Trump, it is actively being adopted by him as well. Concentration camps are growing in America, as are the number of deaths associated with them.

Fort McHenry wasn't until 1812 either but that seems like a trivial error by comparison.

Handshake with North Korea.

Totally destabilised Iran and the Middle East.

His pro Israel stance is a total F U to the Arabs. No way you can mediate with being so objectively pro one side.

JIt's almost like he's secretly working with the Russians (especially if you add in his input to the Brexit debate etc)

"It is easy to dismiss Donald Trump as an ignoramus, not least because he is."

Fintan O'Toole is brilliant.

I have a friend who lives over in Ireland who occasionally sends me over copies of articles from the press there, normally Brexit articles along the lines of WTF are they thinking.

The Irish press is usually very good and certainly they are better funded than the Scottish press.
