A team plays all the other teams in their division 16-18 times each. They play the other teams in their league at least two series ( a series is playing a team 4 games in a row at home over 4 or 5 days) so 6-8 times each. Then there's interleague play, in which you play three games against each of the teams in a given division of the other league.

Season starts April and ends in September/early October

I know nothing about baseball and find it abit boring TBH. I did read though that the Red Sox never won a major series (if that's what it's called? I'm taking about their equivalent of the Champions League) for about 50 years. How did that happen with a club who I am assuming are the second best club in the sport? Geniunely interested.

There's longer streaks and the season is long and so not always the biggest or best team wins.

Trying to work out if you're at the wind up. There is a difference between playing football and running about for 90 minutes and playing rounders.

Went to a game once whilst on holiday in NYC. Had more fun at the dentist. Only good part was then the beer & hot-dog kid arrived. Everyone passed the dogs & beer along the line. Never catch on.

The Chicago Cubs went 108 years between World Series wins and finally ended the curse in 2016, same year we ended our Scottish Cup hoodoo.

I was on a cruise in the Caribbean in 2017 and got drinking with a couple of Cubs fans. Talking about the emotions of both events, they're likely the closest to really understanding how we felt in May 2016. Showed each other videos of both wins and had a good drink and reminisce with them:aok:

I went. Had a great time. “Upgraded” our seats to £300 ones behind and to the right of home plate after we figured out there were loads of empty, expensive seats.

Certainly had some spice in the first innings (6-6).

It did go on, but find it a great game to catch up have a chat, some beers and watch a bit of sport.

Wouldn’t say I’m a mega fan, but it was a good day/night out in Laandan.

BTW it was ****** roasting on Saturday. Barely needed to pee, despite all the beer I was drinking.

What an utterly boring game baseball is.

Not sure how often you've watched it but like any sport that's not as simple to follow as football baseball's a sport you need to devote some time to. Irvine Welsh lives, or used to live, in Chicago and became a big fan after moving to the US. He sums it up well:

"Baseball is a different animal from British football, and most other sports. It’s absorbing rather than exciting, and teams play so many times a week, it's about steady devotion rather than a rabid outpouring of fanaticism on a Saturday."

Personally I enjoy it. It's got such a rich and romantic history, almost mythological. I'd recommend a book called The Boys of Summer about the heyday of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
