High hopes for this boy after reading a few articles about him. Another 3 year deal as well so hopefully wont have to do to much tinkering next season.

Still more to come

Young defender who will continue to improve.

Also can score from freekicks too !

5 signings before July 1st!

Be interesting to see if things slow up a bit now and we do some other business late on as things develop.

Anyway, welcome aboard Tom.

Great to see so many 'proper' signings (unlike a number of recent deals which have been loan moves) being made - and nice and early too. Hopefully a really strong squad being assembled. I get the impression Hibs mean business next season.

Same player basically. We are being fooled into think we are prepared this summer. You will never see any two of the five on the pitch at the same time.

5 new bodies in with a full pre-season under their belt is good business

How many first team players do we have now?

Have to say I've been impressed with the speed at which we've got deals done.

Couple of things that could be behind that, IMHO (and this is just me speculating):
- Heckingbottom works better with the recruitment team than previous managers
- we've gone after targets rather than looking at who agents are offering, which I believe was a feature of Lennon's recruitment strategy
- we've backed Heckingbottom with transfer funds to get deals over the line (which may be indicative of a McGinn windfall)

Whatever the reasons are, it's a welcome change and it's very encouraging to see us getting quality in the door early.

West Brom wanted to pay £400,000 for him last summer.

I think we have done very well to get him especially on 3 year deal.

Plays well for 2 years and keep or sell for profit.

It could also be that we've been more realistic with our targets. Finding players that are happy to have Hibs as a first choice as opposed to those who could probably/possibly do better for themselves elsewhere and who are waiting to see what offers they get.

Heckingbottom also seems to be an attraction for these guys.

It's really good we're getting our business done early. The longer the new signings have with the rest of the squad before we start playing games the better. McNulty and Omeonga would slot in quickly if they sign as they're familiar with the place. Things looking really positive.

Indeed. Remember when we signed a player like Sauzee? This guy isn't Sauzee, so he probably isn't good enough. Disgusting.

Did we pay a fee for him?

I read somewhere that we are paying "nominal add-ons". What that means in the real world I don't know. I'm fairly certain he was out of contract, but it could be ye olde training compensation.

Hecky good to his word to get so many players in early. Exciting times

We seem to be emphasising James’ versatility- could he be an option to play holding role in midfield? Notice people saying Jackson can play there. Seems to be the only position that remains a clear gap but maybe not if these 2 can play in there?

Interesting that he says he feel he is most likely to play at full back...suggests that gray or Lewis are under pressure ....

Well he is a RB. That’s his natural position.

Sure I read a report that he can play at LB too

Think we need someone in there who’s actual position it is, not just someone who can do a job.

No point in having all the creative players of nobody can get the ball to ten quick enough. I’d be surprised if we don’t get someone in for that position.

Yeah I agree and would hope we sign someone who goes straight into the team to play that role. I did previously think we’d need 2 energetic players in that mould but maybe now it’ll be just the one.

Plays well for 2 years and keep or sell for profit.

I hate when we talk about selling our best players off. In some circumstances it may be inevitable but the club should really have the mindset of him doing really well and earning a new contract.

As soon as we start viewing players as commodities to sell on then the heart is ripped out the club. Bringing through and selling the 'golden generation' brought that mentality to the club and it has only recently been eradicated with Leanne Dempster.

I think the players now view playing for Hibs as a privilege rather than a short-term and convenient stepping stone. Long may that continue.

I have a very good feeling about this signing based on next to nothing.

We have gone after and signed realistic targets this summer.
Can see us having a good depth to our squad next season with a minimum of players on the treatment table.
Looking good.

Tom and Christian were the players on the transfer horizon.

Is there anyone else coming into view?

Seems to me that we are pushing on and signing our first choices early doors. A criticism of the club in years gone by was that we either failed to get the first choices in at all and if we did then more often than not it was done later in the windows. Definitely a noticeable change in tact , wonder if hecky made his opinion clear on the matter.
