Paul said: “We think Christian’s signing is a real statement of intent and I’m delighted we were able to fend off other interested clubs to secure his signature.

“The recruitment staff here have been looking at Christian for a while now and he’s also someone who was on my radar.

“We think he’s well suited to Scottish football, whether that’s leading the line or working with a partner.

“Christian is intelligent, has good movement, scores different types of goals, can handle himself physically and will press well from the front.

“He gives us something different up top.”

Christian explained that he already has a clear idea of what is expected of him after detailed talks with Paul over his role within the team’s setup.

He said: “I felt like I knew exactly what he wanted from me within 10 seconds. He’s very clear in his instructions and I think it will really suit my game.

“I’m looking forward to working under him.

“I like getting after the ball with a high work-rate, making a nuisance of myself for defenders and playing off the shoulder. I like to attack crosses – just an all-round number nine, really.”

Was just about to ask the same, this sounds like Reading are asking too much for him, unless Kamberi moves. They also say working as a lone striker or in a pair, which looks like 1 up against most teams and maybe 2 against weaker teams.

Anyway, welcome aboard .

If the RB is announced tomorrow it might be the 1st time we have got almost a complete wish list in early:

Left sided midfielder

Striker

An enforcer type and maybe a keeper and anything else would be a luxury.

1 goal in 17 appearances in the championship and a journeyman’s cv in the Welsh and English ( lower-non )leagues doesn’t inspire elation in me. Hopefully, he can step up a level and do the business at Hibs. Aged 26, so a fairly uninspiring career so far, spell at Forest Green aside.

Would be nice to have a “marquee” signing on board soon, just for a bit of balance.

Yeah, definitely need a marquee signing with a great CV like Stokes, De Graaf or Grant Holt soon enough.

Their wikipedia page isn't supposed to inspire you, their performances are. The manager doesn't sign players based on wikipedia so why are they judged by that on here?

I don't see anywhere in that post that he's being slated.

I'm willing to give everyone we sign a chance and the fact we have paid (by our standards) a relatively high amount to sign him suggests we have high hopes for him.

Signing players from Forest Green Rovers will always provoke responses like the one you have quoted though, it's inevitable.

Was said on another thread or earlier here, appearances for Bolton (who were in dire straits) were 50/50 full/sub. So maybe not a good guide. But I agree this is a step up. Hopefully Hecks got it right.

Can't see a marquee signing maybe another one in this mould if a fee is required. Anything else will be loans/frees I'm guessing.

Hopefully the league Cup group stage will allow him to get a few goals against dross to get his confidence up and he goes from there.

The player that has just made the biggest move of his career for a decent transfer fee to a big club that have been monitoring him for two years while he has scored a goal every second game in league two and missed out on a £1m transfer to Bolton through no fault of his own needs a confidence boost by putting a few away past Arbroath.

I think he’ll probably be feeling alright about himself if I’m being honest

Mark Caughey was an RUC Detective before signing for us. Centre Half Mark Fulton became a copper after leaving Hibs.

Mark McGraw joined the Police not long after leaving Hibs

Re our signings this summer.
The 3 guys from English football appear to be solid pro's who don't come with a reputation for intemperate habits, which is one less worry. They also appear to have been properly scouted by the recruitment staff and the manager.

I think Newell like most wingers will be inconsistent but Droidge and Jackson will be solid performers.
Sure Bolton were going to pay £250k for Droidge last season and i suspect that was the fee we have paid.
Suspect there was lots of add ons attached to the Bolton deal and this will no doubt be the case with our deal with Forest Green.

Sure we paid £200k last summer for both Mallan & Horgan
Not a fortune but it shows we are no longer totally reliant on free transfers and loans.

Re McNulty the problem is he still has 3 years to go on a lucrative deal at Reading which he sensibly won't walk away from and his club won't both pay him off as well as write off most of his transfer fee. For those reasons i can't see any way he will be joining Hibs this summer. Suspect he will go to a 3rd tier English club like Sunderland who will pay a big fat loan fee for him.

Re Droidge, I'm really pleased we have managed to get a decent striker in before the end of June.

Next up a defensive midfield super athlete please :cb.

I'm sure there was a defender type player in the late 70s, early 80s who only played a few games left to join the Mounties in Canada. He was back as a spectator before the split but I can't remember for the life of me what his name is!

I'm sure there was a defender type player in the late 70s, early 80s who only played a few games left to join the Mounties in Canada. He was back as a spectator before the split but I can't remember for the life of me what his name is!

It's an age thing :-(

I would suggest that someone we have allegedly paid £350k for is a marquee signing. Let's not forget Scott Allan either. I don't think the others have been too shabby either. Good summer so far

It’s peanuts really, just over half of what Marathon Bet were allegedly paying us for shirt sponsorship in the last three years.

I'm quite excited by this one. It's high time we sign players outside of our relative comfort zone of Scottish football. Looks like a great signing and can't wait to see him in action. Heckingbottom is a man with a plan and its great to see real structure and thought behind his signings.

I have actually seen him play (and score two goals) in January 2017 Bromley vs Forest Green (visiting a mate).

Forest Green were very good (it was meant to be a tight top of the table struggle and my Bromley supporting mate was not amused) . Stand out for Forest green was their midfielder ?Sinclair I think and I checked his stats after thinking he could do a job in the SPL

I don't remember Doidge's goals (could have beebn the 4 pints before the game..) but I see from the report they wwere a close range one and a 94th minuter

Can't remember much about him apart from he was very active and was looking for passes behimd the defence to run on to (whch forest Green were very good at)

the only other thing I remember was reading inthe programme that forest Green were the worl'd first Vegan team!

He quit Hibs to join the police.

Exactly. Less loan signings and six month deals like Nelom, Mavrais, Spector and more signings like these. Shaping up nicely, very optimistic about next season. It also gives us a pretty settled squad going forward. If we qualify for Europe with the current squad, then we aren’t chasing our tail as much in Europe.

All the signs are looking likely that we’re getting our first picks and signing them early. Think the board are doing an amazing job to back yet another manager as much as they can.

This could be a very special season and we might just have a striker who will bang in 15-20 this season with the service he will get from our midfield.

Still think we will get another 3-4 players in.

Hibs sign Doidge (potentially James)

"Why are we signing these lower league players?"

As you say - unbelievable.

Think a few folk on here like to position themselves so they can go "I told you so" and try and look like some football genius if the player doesn't do well.

If he does then they give it the "glad to be proven wrong" chat.

However, some make their minds up before the player kicks a ball for the club and will never change their stance even if the player is brilliant.

I generally moan about our recruitment in the summer window but absolutely nothing to complain about this time. We've done what we should do ever year - spent money on players to come in early for pre-season.

I don't really care who we've spent 350k on - the fact that we have in the first place is a statement of intent and we wouldn't be spending it if anyone involved at the club didn't think it would be worth it.

Vegan food is amazing nowadays. It is generally healthy, there’s less damage to the environment and if it edges more people toward this sort of lifestyle it is better for everyone. I bet you could replace the minging pies at Easter road with vegan ones and most people would be happy. But then again I’m biased toward this sort of food. I know the levels of meat that go into pies there’ll at Easter road so it wouldn’t take much to make them vegan 😝

It’s just good seeing a club make a stance. The more that do it the more people will think about it. Nothing moves forward without change. Personally I don’t care what other eat, but I do see the damage the way humans eat is effecting the planet. If we don’t change it won’t be a hundred years when we cannot produce enough it will be in 20-30 years. Edinburgh is currently ranked one of the best places in the world to be vegan. I think it would be great if we helped that ranking. On the environmental side it takes 15000 litres of water to produce 1kg of beef, it take 4000 litres to produce 1kg of vegetable protein. We are suffering water shortages all over the planet. Veganism wont be a choice for the coming generations it will be a necessity and I’m talking about kids who have already been born. Anyway I’m gonna stop banging my vegan drum. It would be nice to have a vegan option at ER that isn’t chips but until that happens I’ll just not buy anything at the kiosks. 🌱

I’m gonna adopt Forest Green Rovers as my English team! Like Son of Haggart said above they’re the first vegan approved team in the world. Just read a bit about it and they’ve made all their kiosk food vegan! I would love to see Hibs go down this route.

Excellent. Those shouting "save the pie" could wait 90 minutes surely 👍🏻😄

So let me get this straight, you are going to adopt a random English league 2 team as your favourite English team because they sell vegan food in their turnstile kiosks? 😳

Sorry but that just sounds f****** mad!

I have little to no connections to England, my granddad was English but I never knew him so no connection there, my uncle is English and couldn’t be less interested in football. So why is it ****ing mad that I pick an English team that supports one of my philosophies of life (they don’t just sell vegan food at kiosks, maybe go and have a read about them and see what they do before belittling what they do down to their food kiosk sales). Is that mad? Really, supporting a team because you find a connection with it is mad? So why do you support Hibs? It can’t be because you have a connection with them can it? Cause that’s ****ing mad isn’t it? People support things because they like them or they have something in common with them. My faither is a Jambo, lucky for me I don’t have anything in common with that wife beating waste of space apart from some dna. I started supporting Hibs because I found a connection with the club and their supporters, I chose Hibs when everything would point me in the direction of hearts because I felt a commonality with other Hibs fans, is it mad that I support Hibs and not hearts?

Welcome Christian, make yourself a legend.

This thread confirms that people will argue about ANYTHING in the close season. Can’t wait for the season to start.

We’re all Hibby’s here, doesn’t matter where you’re from, what you eat, who your god is or your reason for supporting the club. All are welcome at Easter Road.

Because Vegans have to impress their Veganism on everyone. It's just boring now.

Yeah cause I walk about a vegan friendly city bombarded with adverts for Vegan products where every restaurant advertises their vegan food, where every advertising board doesn’t have fried chicken or reconstituted meat patties emblazoned on them. I’ve never see anything about meat eating on cookery programs there aren’t any cool books with recipes for meat because meat eaters keep really quiet about their choice to eat dead animal carcasses. You’re right, this thread I think is the 2nd time I’m mentioned veganism on .net, once before in the PM forum so I apologise for impressing my veganism on you, your delicate little meat eating mind must be tired of the bombardment it receives everyday from us militant vegans forcing our vegetable eating upon you. I will desist from this horrible crime immediately.

All that bread and grain food products that Vegans consume..... Most of it consumed contains dead animals like mice, rabbit and other small animals.

Life would be very dull if we all agreed on everything but there is a few on here who it seems can't wait to disagree. We don't sign players early enough. Hecky does then it's they are lower English league players. We sign what looks a very exciting defender on a three year deal and we still have grumbles remembering where sir David came from.
It's maybe just our Edinburgh nature to be pessimistic but boy do some take it to extremes.
Supporting Hibs is all about a rollercoaster of highs and lows. The last few seasons have been the best for a long while and we now have a cracking manager and our biggest attendances figures for decades.with apologies to yazz, the only way is up.

Oooooh methinks she doth protest too much :faf::faf::faf:

The arguments people get into on this board never cease to amaze and amuse me.

Welcome to our new striker, which was the original point of the thread.

Well this thread has taken a turn...

It's certainly something for posters to get their teeth into.

As regards proper vegetarian or vegan options in the kiosks, why not? It's the 21st century.

It's better than most reasons - glory hunting.

There's an awful lot of Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City fans in Scotland. Whilst I'm sure some have connections to the those teams or places, the fact they are and have been wildly successful is a major factor and far worse for the game than someone following a lower league side as their second team.

You probably dont know this but one of the garage duo artful dodger (rewind selecta with Craig david) comes from Cwmbran same place as Christian Doige (and me) so good choice of gag!!

I didn't know that Nellio, but one of those daft wee coincidences!

I just hope he's one of those strikers who are lucky in front of goal - then he'll be a jammy Doidger...

I’d also thoroughly recommend Seitan Bacon.

Is he a defensive midfielder from the English second tier? :greengrin

LD will be all over this Vegan suggestion I’d imagine.

I was joking the other day about avocado and couscous but man, it could be on it’s way.

Need to do something about the floodlights though, if we keep using them we’re gonna kill the planet.

Apparently seagulls are becoming more aggressive as they're eating too much junk food and it's messing with their heads/metabolism.

Just think, vegan food, chilled out seagulls.

Been local to where Christian has played I asked local and his dad is one of my friends drinking mates , I was told everything he has got so far was done by hard graft , was told he is a really nice guy and he will get goals for us .
The local pub where my mate drinks will be making a few visits up once the season starts so I have already included myself in that.
