Kilmarnock announce Angelo Alessio as manager. Antonio Conte's assistant at Juventus, Chelsea and the Italian National Team.

Looks a great appointment on paper.

But managing and motivating a group of players in this league is different to coaching world class players so hopefully he’s hopeless.

Exciting appointment for them though.

On the face of it a very impressive appointment. If he can take points off the OF then I've no issue with him being a success.

Very exciting appointment for them.

There must be some sort of link between ultra defensive, football killing catenaccio and playing in front of about 3000 people on a plastic pitch in Ayrshire.

(Sorry - just wanted to piss on what appears to be a very positive appointment with a bit of unnecessary negativity).

If the reports are to be believed Killie attracted a very decent calibre of applicant for the job.

For all the people lining up to knock the league standard down it seems plenty high profile figures in football are happy to come and work here.

This one is that is either going to be a disaster or a stroke of genius.

His record is incredible. The question is always can be guys like him that have worked with the very best translate that to a lower level.

Sure is exciting times ahead for Killie, fair play to them. I think as long as they keep Alex Dyer there too things may well work out. The big elephant in the room though is again, that pitch. Hard to believe an Italian coach of such pedigree would be comfy playing on that every other week?

Only on a part time basis. As far as I believe his main work is still there at Killie though new boss and all...

Exactly. He went on to prove he is the best manager ever.

This boy at Killie might do the same but just now it looks like quite an exciting but also risky appointment.

He could be a disaster, he could be a revelation but either way the Killie board deserve a lot of credit for doing all they can to sustain the club’s recent renaissance.

I believe that Kilmarnock are relaying their pitch. Same surface as used by Barcelona and Ajax at their training centres.

I would say that Killie appointing a former Chelsea, Juve & Italy assistant is high profile in terms of Scottish football. Maybe not a household name but massive pedigree.

You'r right, he's not a high profile manager. But the level he's been involved in is much higher than most of the managers in our league.

Assistant manager at Juve, Italy and Chelsea is insane! Let's not pretend the assistant manager role isn't important. If you were to ask me if I'd go for that or, for example, McInnes I'd be going for the Italian every day of the week.

Hugely experienced. At putting training cones out for somebody else. Massive gamble resulting in flop and sacking at or before end of season (hopefully for us!)

Probably taking a quiet satisfaction that he did a half-decent and under-appreciated job getting the squad of players that Stevie Clarke went on to do a good job with together.

All I meant was he is basically a number two that has served at several top flight clubs, he has yet to prove his credentials as a manager in his own right. Going by the response on here never mind Killie fans, expectations will be through the roof, let’s see how he copes.

A high profile appointment perhaps but he's not a high profile manager since he's never been a manager/head coach before.

I think that was the point being made.

I agree, but high profile doesn't mean good or experienced. It just means a big name with a decent level of exposure and prominence, thus a 'high profile' new manager. No idea if he'll make a good gaffer or not.

He's not but a few posters have already set out why they think it's an interesting appointment. Alessio is obviously not a household name, but anyone who has a decent knowledge of Italian football will know of him.

After working at Stamford Bridge, Stadio Olimpico and Juventus's ground I'd imagine he'd just simply stand and applaud at the main stand from the plaza alongside the solo clapper
