If they don’t do anything, why are they being accused of usurping UK democracy?

Simple google will show you numerous improvements such as paid holidays and workers rights which have come from Europe as well as consumer protection and environmental protection.

Brexiteers continually claim that the EU is undemocratic. The EU system is not dissimilar to the UK one. The EU Parliament and Commission both have to agree before legislation is passed.

The EU parliament is made up of MEPs elected by the people in the EU elections and they then form political groups like our party system, with the aim of building political policy based on common interest.

The EU commission is made up of 28 commissioners nominated by the individual member states and sent there to represent the views of those individual member states.

For legislation to be adopted it has to pass through both the Parliament and Commission, not unlike our house of commons and house of lords.

(1) To maintain a geographic link between representative and represented. We elect our MEPs, the French elect theirs, and so on.

(2) Is the right answer something to do with the shape of bananas?

I was just wondering what the individual MEPs do. We don't get coverage of debates and votes etc in the European Parliament hence my ignorance.

Pretty sure it’s on BBC Parliament sometimes.

I wonder if that's all part of our Brexit 'problem'?... From what I've heard the goings on at the EU parliament are much more widely reported elsewhere compared to here in the UK.

We elect the MEPs who then elect the higher ups.

Unlike the UK. Where the higher ups are a completely unelected House of Lords and Head of State.

But the Brexiteer thinks that's somehow more democratic.
