Breaking news on sky sports that he’s died in a car crash, only 35 as well. Terrible news

I opened this expecting it to be another joke about us trying to sign him on loan.

I wish it had been. The reality is a bit of a shocker.

Very sad news; only 35. I remember his spell at Arsenal and he was excellent for Sevilla.

Sad news. Had some record in the Europa League, 5 times winner with Sevilla and Atletico Madrid I think and a league champion with both Arsenal and Real Madrid.

I was working in Paris the morning he signed for Arsenal from Seville and it looked a stunning signing even if I couldn’t understand a word of the report.
Always played with a smile and was some player.I remember Zidane being very complimentary about him. He’ll be well remembered down the Avenell Road. R.I.P.

Very sad news. I remember watching Reyes for Sevilla and thinking he was amongst the best players I had ever seen, completely controlling a game against Real Madrid. When he signed for Arsenal I was expecting great things from him, he didn't quite reach the same heights IMO as he did at Sevilla, but he was still part of a brilliant Arsenal team. Very sad news for one still so young.

Mind all the mental rumours that he was spotted at East Mains. So sad, his family and friends must be heartbroken. RIP Jose

His friend Moreno looked in distress at the tribute today and had a t shirt on in his memory which was a nice touch.

Very sad . One of his cousins died and another is seriously injured in hospital . Was a great player . I remember watching him with Sevilla in his teens ( debut at 16 ) and again in his 30s and for Arsenal and others in between . I remember watching a report about his life in London about a year after he joined Arsenal - he`d moved his family over to London and hardly spoke any English . Although he left Arsenal quite soon after , he moved around quite a bit in Spain and abroad to China . Accident happened near to town where he was born , Utrera . RIP .

At least 135mph was what I read in the police report.

It's sad that he's paid the ultimate price for his actions but that is a ridiculous speed to be driving at on a normal road.

It should hopefully act as a lesson for anyone else who might consider driving at such reckless speeds.

What’s the national speed limit in spain? It seems the norm when I’m there with buses easily doing 90mph.

Rest José. Fantastic footballer far far too young.

120 km/h on Autopista (motorways). 100 km/h on Autovia (dual carriageways). 90 km/h on single carriageway roads.

Speculation that a tyre blew out causing him to lose control, also the car had lain unused for a while and tyre pressures might have been a contributory factor.

He was doing 200kph, which is nearly 140mph in the report I read. My car starts feeling sorry for itself at 60mph!!

Just realised the post I read earlier said 135mph not kph so my maths was out.

I’d say driving the car at 140mph without checking it first sounds like the contributing factor.

Thanks. 👍 spending or not such a shame. The speed limits hopefully make it less judgemental.

Don’t feel any more sorrow for him than I would some random totaling his car doing 100+ MPH.

Agreed.

The news about how fast he was going has turned this story from a tragic accident to simple stupidity.

Was gutted when I heard about this on Saturday but after that police report, it is just plain stupidity from Reyes to drive that fast. Why? Especially now that it has resulted in both his and his cousin losing their lives plus another in hospital with severe injuries.

I find it odd that when a known name does something like this it's a tragedy and when an unknown stranger crashes at 140mph injuring and killing others then it's a different story.

What a ridiculously selfish and moronic thing to do, you can only be glad that other innocent people weren't injured.
