View Full Version : The political 'lie and correction' thread

Thought it would be useful to have a lie and correction thread that covers all parties. That way we can keep track of who is at it.

I'll start with this one from today.

Although it's true to point out the SNPs 2007 manifesto pledge of changing debts to grants. It sadly went out of the window when they were only running as a minority government at the time with 47 seats (compared to Labours 46 seats). I don't recall any of the other parties at Holyrood commiting to support the policy at the time. Which would have made it impossible to get through parliament.

Why didn't the great socialist Labour back the SNP policy to abolish debt for grants back in 2007?

Why are you posting images of text only, while leave out the source? (Could it be because it's from the Telegraph?)

Also again, the SNP are leading a minority government, as they were in 2007. Any pledges made can only be absolute with a majority government. Otherwise you're relying on other parties to help you maintain all of your manifesto pledges.

Why make these same pledges if you're unsure of other parties aid to incorporate them?

Is this the same rhetoric that would be used once folk realised they'd been massively duped post separatism/independence?

Give up Fife, the Scots deserve far better than this bs.

You could ask the same question to all parties who make manifesto pledges. Who is going to ensure Jeremy Corbyn gets all of his nationalisation policies through if they find themselves in a minority government situation like the SNP?

Yes, their 2007 and 2016 manifestos. Where in both cases they failed to gain a majority government.

No government in the world will get all of their manifesto pledges through as a minority government. So a bit of a stretch to say that they "lied". When all manifesos are created on the basis of running a majority administration.

You know I could post sources. But if you're just going to write it all off as "crazy conspiracy nonsense" without actually engaging with what I present to you, then it's a complete waste of time and effort.

You have never replied to any my posts asking you to back up your lies. We’ll put that down to you running away and hiding again. If you don’t want to engage in debate why are you here?

Excuse me. But what are you doing to "engage in debate" here? If you're going to refute something that I say on here, then by all means, state your case but have some evidence of your own to back it up with. It's not helpful to call things "lies" when you fail to present "truths" backed up with any kind of evidence.

Reply on the thread then instead of your usual running away and hiding. . You provided no back up for your lies. I’m more than happy to engage in debate.

You only need to ask yourself this. If the EU wasn't responsible for devolution in Scotland. Then why did Holyrood require an EU Continuity Bill in order to protect it from potential power grabs after brexit?

You haven’t answered how the EU imposed Scottish devolution on the UK.
Let’s carry this on on the original thread where you made that claim shall we? I’m more than happy to have that discussion. :aok:

Labour's McCrone report is for me the worst political stitch up of my time.

More up to date porkies, has the be the Scottish secretary, Alistair Carmichael having to be taken to court by four of his constituents after lying about the first minister and her meeting with a French ambassador.

In my opinion there's a huge difference between a broken manifesto pledge and a lie.

You could also split the manifesto between possible, when in the majority (close to a lie and the blame is all theirs) and not always possible when in a minority government (hardly a lie at all, blame can be easily deflected).

Hardly any point in debating anything covered by the last point as it will just ping pong between 'Aye it wiz and 'No it wiznae.
