View Full Version : They don't all come back...

Which was the most gut-wrenching player that didn't come back?

Short term loans, long term deals, and short term signings not returning...

Often with assurances that they will be back.

The answer will depend on the age of the respondant and gullibility as well at that time :)

For me?

Daniel Anderson, no idea why he was allowed to leave?

Imagine if we had kept him and Doumbe. That team was a decent keeper and a CH who wasn't Colin Murdock away from being virtually unstoppable.

Didier Agathe. Does he qualify? Signed a short term deal played 5 games for Hibs at the beginning of the season 2000/1 and signed for Celtic in the October of that season. Jeezo!

Henderson

That's the top answer. Always looked on the cards for a return that never happened.

Surprised no one has mentioned Leigh Griffiths....

Shocker and a terrible piece of business by Hibs. A 3 month contract FFS. We definitely lived to regret that as he was playing like a world beater in those games and then went on to be a very solid player for Celtic for a number of years, albeit at full back.

That's not how I remember that side. We finished 8th that season with Doumbe and Andersson. won 11, drawn 11, lost 16. We were bang average.

That squad had major surgery in the summer, with Murphy, Beuezelin, Shiels plus other coming in.

I remember him getting a standing ovation from the Dundee fans after beating half their team to score at Easter Road. One and only time I've seen that. One of best games I've ever seen. Dundee had some team too.

Ah yes. Loved him at Hibs. Took on the “Matty Jack” role before it became the “Marvin Bartley” role.

Leigh deserved his place within the 2016 cup winning team. When he left the pitch in the 2013 cup final clearly not having been fit to play that day but he tried nonetheless, that was pretty heartbreaking.

Efe Ambrose as well.

Doumbe, one of the most overrated centre backs ever to play for Hibs. Posted missing v livi in 2004 League cup final in one of his many below average performances!!

Id have to say Henderson! an extremely gifted young player who took Hibs to heart and was part of a very special day/weekend.

Practically most of the above mentioned, but his ultimate, legendary cross and the subsequent disappointment of his non return (f*** you celtc) make Hendo a standout.

We were bang average because Bobby had been told we needed to slash the wage bill and there wasn’t much money about. The golden generation had started to break into the first team but were very young. Those two players were decent, Mowbray made some great signings to help us kick on.

Pat Stanton and Des Bremner for me, I was relatively young and when each of those two left I felt the world had fallen in on me. I haven't really felt the same about any other player since then. Bobby Smith maybe too, went to Jock Wallace's Leicester...that was too much for me.

Sven Mathiesen and Isaak Refvak both arrived together and had problems with work permits. Sven died in 2011😥
