Looks as if English clubs will dominate European football for sometime to come.

I don't see it that way myself. They'll need to win one again first of all, which hasn't YET happened this year.

Spanish teams have won 7 of the last 10 champions leagues, and 6 of the last 10 Europa leagues. That could be described as dominating and I doubt very much that the English Premier League will replicate it over the next decade.

Really this is tiresome chat and has been for years. The CL this year has been one of the best to watch, your making a mockery comment is just nonsense. It’s called the Champions league because the winners are the champions of Europe, nothing to do with individual champions and never has been since they changed the format.

I've never heard that explanation before. If that's the case you could call any football competition the Champions League as whoever wins it will be the champions.

I think it's perfectly valid to question the name. And not just the word 'Champions'. Describing it as a 'League' makes no sense either!

Liverpool should have allowed Barcelona to walk a goal in after the Liverpool player pretended he wasn't going to take the corner then doubled back to cross for the fourth goal. Clear cheating and the referee should have booked him for poor sportsmanship.

I think you need to check the definition of the word League to find it makes perfect sense.

The Oxford English Dictionary definition (in relation to the word's use in sport) is: 'A group of sports clubs which play each other over a period for a championship.'

By that definition most of the clubs who take part in the Champions League don't play each other at all, so it can't accurately be defined as a 'league'. The Champions League is a series of qualifying ties followed by a series of group matches and concluded by a knock-out stage. A cup competition is surely how most would describe it.

Easiest solution as others have suggested is to remove the misleading 'Champions' and the equally misleading 'League' and restore its traditional name - the European Cup.

I was referring to:

A class or category of quality or excellence, the category or quality of excellence being those clubs that qualify for the champions league under the set criteria, makes perfect sense to me.

Every Scottish club should be arranging a trip out to Amsterdam to copy their academy recipe.

The amount of world class talent they've produced over the years, and continue to produce, is quite ridiculous.

The Dutch national side will be licking their lips at what lies ahead in the next few years.

But it's come out of left field. I read nothing about the imminent return of Ajax to the top table when they were in the group stage in the autumn, even when they beat Bayern. They've been second in the Dutch league for large parts of the season, and still might not even win it. Then they tear Madrid and Juve apart twice each and now a top Spurs side. Six legs of almost perfect knockout football. And literally no pundits saw it coming. It's set for a beautiful final now.

You can't help feel this was their chance. That team is going to get picked apart over the next couple of years and regardless of how many youngsters they have coming through that will take it's toll. I feel for their fans as, at a different level, we have seen a young team broken up too soon with a sense of what if.......

I think that was UEFA trying to make it seem like a European Super League, which the big clubs were threatening, but keep some continuity with the old name, which was officially the European Champion Clubs' Cup although everyone here called it the European Cup (I still do).

Anyway, I think the format is pretty good now. The problem is the bias to the big leagues and self reinforcing advantage their clubs get.

And that old name made sense because the tournament was open only to clubs which were champions of their nation (I'm not forgetting by the way that Hibs weren't Scottish champions when we appeared in the first European Cup, but that inaugural tournament was invitational).

If Uefa are, as you say, trying to keep some continuity with that old name, then the correct name for today's version of the competition would be something like: The Champions (but mostly not champions) League (even though it's really a cup competition).

If it's a brand name the OFT should be looking into it as it's misleading and gives a false impression that the tournament is contested by champions when in fact we have two finalists this year in Liverpool and Spurs who have not won their national league title for around 30 years and 60 years respectively

They were playing away in the second leg after losing the home game. Their deficit was also added to in the second game and they came back to win that one in the last minute of added time.

Liverpool were at home and their deficit also wasn't added to in the second leg.

Happy for Spurs to get there. Starved of success in recent years.

Tottenham showing a few top 4 finishes and a new stadium that was a year behind schedule doesn't make you one of the big boys.

Finishing ahead of Arsenal for 3 consecutive years and reaching the Champions League final the same year they didn't even sign a player, beating Guardiola's 100 and 98 point champions along the way isn't a bad attempt.

It's a good point; Pochettino bought no-one as we are always being told, but of course that's part of their strength, team spirit and chemistry. Wanyama and Trippier have both had poor seasons and players you would just never pick as first choice at this level of football. Llorente up front, a decent enough veteran, but missing Kane, missing Son last game, defenders getting moved around to fill in gaps.

And Liverpool without Salah and Firmino and up against Messi in great form desperate to make up for last season. just can't decide which comeback was the most ridiculous.

Does this mean that the Premiership are guaranteed 5 champions League spots next year?, maybe 6 if it's an all English Europa League final?

The only way England can get 5 teams is if Arsenal finish 5th and win the EL or Spurs finish 5th and win the CL.

Arsenal if they win it, as Chelsea are already guaranteed it.

So:

Spurs V Liverpool - both currently in english top 4 so qualify by league position - no extra CL spot (unless Spurs tumble out of the top 4 on the last day and win the CL). 4 CL slots for England
Arsenal V Chelsea - Chelsea already qualified for CL, so them winning the EL - no extra CL spot - 4 CL slots for England
Arsenal v Chelsea - Arsenal win - and don't make the top 4 - extra CL spot for them - 5 Slots for England.

United fans are feeling sick. Not only are they struggling but they have to support City in both the Premier League and the FA Cup.

They would never support Liverpool in anything least of all not the Premier League least they close on United for number of PL titles won.

Now United could face entry to the Europa League in the Second Qualifying Round on 25 July should City not win the FA Cup. United are supposed to be ending their Australia, Singapore, and China with a match against Tottenham in Shanghai that day. The second leg comes just before they are supposed to be playing Milan in Cardiff in another pre-season match.

City fans are happy as they have to beat Brighton and Watford to take an unprecedented domestic Treble (or Quadruple if you count the Community Shield).

The BT guys still talking £7M for McKenna - am I the only one who thinks he is "ok" but no danger worth +£3M - hes had quite a few shockers, imo

Absolutely, however if Scottish football is to really prosper we need to start getting real (honest) value (in today's markets) for our players compared to what other European leagues are getting for players. McGinn is already proving what an absolute bargain Villa got, so if we start getting big fees for players then we can really start investing in the game up here - assuming clubs spend and invest wisely once they get the money.

I've never rated John Souttar, yet he's apparently in the £4 million bracket. Bias aside, I have to agree that he is in that bracket when you see bang average players down south (who are no better than him) going for 6 or 7 million. And I don't think Souttar is any better than Paul Hanlon or Porteous. Souttar however, like McGinn, is being well advised and he may well earn that kind of move and fair play to him.

The huge problem Scottish football has is convincing young players that it's well worth staying in the SPFL and getting first team games and experience under their belt before chasing a big money '2 year contract'. Far too often good players up here don't do their 'apprenticeship' and end up drifting down leagues when they could have earned so much more, both financially and professionally. In short, many of our young talent put money before hard work and are short-term thinking.

If Aberdeen get that kind of money for him, fair play to them and to the player. Our league needs people who really promote and showcase talent, but ensure the league is a great breeding ground for talent. We won't get that with the likes of Neil Doncaster and Co at the helm who are too focused on 2 clubs at the expense of others.

What where the 400,000 Hearts are tonight, only 368 of them at the game

Tbf nothing game on a Friday night, look closer to home suddenly after defeat to rangers people punting tickets for the kilmarnock game because all off a sudden they cant make it

Listen to this craigan Erse waxing lyrical about Bobby burns. How hearts are level is astonishing. Aberdeen should be ashamed.

Very Heartsy performance and goal. I'd be bothered if it wasn't against Aberdeen.

Both these sides are rotten. A joke we haven't beaten either at home this season.

It is absolutely garbage, but I suppose I've been spoiled by the CL games earlier in the week.

The desperation of some on here to turn any negative about hearts into a negative about hibs is boring.

Just seen on BBC website the yams have committed 19 fouls and received 2 yellow cards. How do they get away with it?

You can ask. You wouldn’t fancy the answer much.

They're very tactical in the way they go about it. They hack in turns. By the time it gets back to the person who hacked first, the referee has forgetton all about their last foul.

Like Man City. The only way Guardiola and Levein are in any sense comparable.

That’s it though Percy. This isn’t the real world. And your opinion sucks. See?
