Ok, I'm getting slightly irked about folk saying all the restaurants in the thread are great 😎 so how about a thread that's all about Shan ones...in folks opinion of course!

Chop House in market Street is horrendously overrated, tiny lunch portions and poor service.

I liked the food to be honest, I was happy with my portion size but I agree the service isn't great. I felt patronised by having the whole 'eating concept' explained to me. It was like that Catherine Tait sketch.

Further up that same road, I've twice been disappointed by La Garrigue.

The Indian Lounge on Rose Street is quite possibly the worst Indian restaurant in the UK. The food is 2nd only to the service in terms of woefulness.

The owners replies to TripAdvisor reviews are worth a read though. He's clearly in denial.

Is that the buffet place? Great for a hangover. Where else can you get a roast dinner, noodles and a curry on the same plate?! Essentially a glorified feeding trough, really.

Was many moons ago now, but Hard Rock Cafe in Edinburgh was undoubtedly the worst Hard Rock food I’ve had in the entire world. And I’ve been to a good few of them (much to my wife’s chagrin).

At a hotel I was staying at near Birmingham airport I couldn’t be hooped going into town so ate at the hotel restaurant. Went for chilli con carne and they evidently ran out of sour cream because it was topped with a huge mound of squirty cream!

Throw slug and lettuce into the mix too. :agree:

Although I've had some okay food from all bar one. Not awesome food, I don't think any chain would give that - but reasonable quality and price.

Decent value with their discount card (20%-50% off) but wouldn't pay full price for it.

I don’t think there’s much of a clamour around F&B’s is there?

It’s not a place I really like that much but my boy likes it and so do my nieces so it’s a place the adults will go to keep the kids happy and it does a job, there’s normally deals on which makes it a pretty good deal.

I had a couple of shocking meals there before so tended to stick to pizzas but ventured to other stuff when I’ve been the last couple of times and it’s been fine, not going to win any awards but it’s alright.

FWIW they do a really good breakfast that’s much better than their normal menu.

Worst restaurant I’ve been to is that Jamie Oliver’s in town, hated everything about it.

That's a pity. I used to eat there at least once a week in the mid/late 90s. The food was great and was superb value for money. It was a good bar too.

Down in what was sunny Morecambe for the Easter Weekend but sunny everywhere according to the reports. Missed the game against Celtic but had a ball down in a packed out seaside town with scooters and bikers galore but no fighting on the beaches. My other half dragged me along to see Cannon and Ball on the Friday night at the Railway Station that's now a hub for comedians (loosely said) and other such acts but I did actually enjoy watching the retro pair in action.

Anyhow we ended up there again on the Saturday for a meal as it also doubles up as a bar and restaurant albeit in a separate area and the meal for me was not up to scratch. The chicken was scorched to what looked like black dog excrement bits and other assorted chicken wings were brick hard as if they had been cooked over and over again.

But the pints of real ale were good however I would advise against going there for food.

Morecambe was packed out all weekend and I can only assume every other seaside town was the same and it was a blast.

Delighted to learn we had maintained our unbeaten run when asking in the bookies (don't tell the other half) what the score was.

Mon the Cabbage!!!

That and Ramsays just down and across the road were favoured haunts for me and my crowd too,

The food was good for a long while, shame if it has gone downhill.

Just about everything is nuked in the micro, general rule of thumb for these pub chains, O'Neils and Yates pubs just as bad for food.

Nando’s - while not necessarily being minging it’s ridiculously over priced for what is essentially a wrap from a supermarket meal deal that’s been warmed up.

F&B id definitely agree with.

Braw Burger on Broughton Road. Quite simply the worst burger I’ve ever had.

Not really for Spoons, if you look in their kitchens they have fryers, grills, chargrills and hot plates so a decent mixture of stuff does actually see some cooking.

Speaking of burgers I don't rate that 5 guys highly either. Yes they are fresh and you can pick whatever you want to go on it but imo the burgers are average at best and very expensive at that.

I quite like Five Guys. It’s definitely expensive but I do think the burgers are pretty good. I don’t understand the point of the chip portions though. A small feeds two folk with there being no option for an individual portion.

If I go to Nando's it's usually with the wife or my brother. If you get the whole chicken and four sides it's pretty good value.

Now I love a big portion (even since losing loads of weight) but 5 guys is ridiculous. The first time I went was when I was in London on business. Got the bigger portion and was full with just the chips.

Second time I went I got the small chips and it was still too much!

I remember Frankie and Bennies and Chiquita were either side of the UCI at kinnaird back in the day, OK I was young but I remember them being great. Not set foot in either branch for at least 10 years for the reasons others have stated.

Used to like a Toni Macaroni, but that again has went way downhill and not enjoyed one for a while (the mrs loves the cabonarra I get forced to go now and then)

Vittorias on the walk - controversial I know, but the last 5 or 6 times I have been I have left pretty disappointed in comparison to a few years back. I wouldnt say it was terrible, but its just been 'OK' in the last 18 month to 2 years.

I love a good ol fashioned roast, and carvery when you find one can be great (Don't know the name, but my mum lives in York and has a cracking carvery locally) ive tried Toby and both the Elginhaugh farm and whatever the one is called at the Gyle and all were pretty crap. Ive tried different things on the menu there as well and been crap. Although I think there was a mexican chicken burger that was pretty decent once, must of got lucky that one day.

Edit: just had a look online, they’re much the same as any other chain it would seem :greengrin

I should note I also love Hard Rock, but that Edinburgh one was awful when I went. Got the fajitas and they somehow tasted like an ashtray had been emptied into them. Rancid.
