What rumours? Someone known named? All I've seen and read is the police are not commenting on anything at this time.

The Daily Record's version (yeah, yeah, I know) quotes police sources as saying Welsh wasn't involved in criminality but was killed as a warning to friends of his who are. But you're right, anything coming out just now is big "if"s so who knows?

It’s strange how these sort of guys always create such an outpouring of grief when they die. I’m thinking about the thousands of complete strangers who lined the route of Ronnie Krays funeral cortège and the hundreds of tributes on here and the bounce for a man who 99% of the posters will never have even spoken too. What is it about the public mentality that causes such collective admiration for those involved in criminality.

The stuff we that we know are fact is he done loads of unselfish work in the community for those less fortunate and the reason he was killed is all pure speculation.

Owning a business can lead to surprising levels of income.
Some businesses can surprise you with the high profit they generate, some can surprise you with how little they generate.
Renting a flat at the West End might be on the expensive side but not unrealistic. We're not talking about a mansion in Beverly Hills here.
It's perfectly reasonable that an Edinburgh businessman might be able to live there without it having to be propped up by shady undisclosed income.

New homes at Straiton (Cala) are more than the cost of a basement flat in Chester Street. Are they only available to criminals? That seems to be the view of some posters.

I think the manner of his death rather than where he lives is a bigger indication of some sort of criminal involvement. Like most have said, it is not that expensive a flat.

I think many members here are fully aware that you don’t generally get shot in the head in broad daylight, unless your in to something dodgy. I think it’s natural for people to speculate and wonder why there was a hit in broad daylight in Edinburgh is natural. If he wasn’t associated with Hibs, there would be all kinds of wild speculation and discussions why a man was gunned down in Edinburgh city center.

There's a difference between being curious and posting innuendo about someone who has just been murdered, hours after that person has been murdered, in a place where his friends and family will be posting tributes to him.

I think most people on here are either Edinburgh residents or regular visitors to the city. In our lifetime how many incidents like this can you remember? The last I can recall is the Marmion shooting which was about 15 years ago. I'm sure there may have been another in that time but I can't recall.
It's a huge story locally and the nature of it means there is always going to be speculation and rumour. That doesn't mean it's a free for all for people to say what they like though. The RIP thread has had to be closed because people, from both sides of the argument, were determined to keep bickering rather than respect the purpose of the thread.
There's no desire to censor discussion unless we absolutely have to but please try and keep things civil and show a level of respect.

Not resulting in death but there has been a fair few shootings in Edinburgh, won't mention names but a few have been lucky that have had bullet proof vests on, shots been fired in to houses where kids have been, certainly can't think of a professional hit like this though, maybe one in leith about 30 years ago.

Not at all, I responded to another poster who asked if it was one of the original people arrested, I knew it was so said so. It was your incorrect assertion that it wasn't that person to which you provided a condescending, incorrect response. Grow up, why would anyone feel good about knowing detail about who was arrested for a murder and I didn't state that you knew nothing, not interested in what you do or don't know. No idea what you are referring to re today's events.
