I’m interested but where do you play the football about and what gear do you wear

I've started playing walking football in York.

It's brilliant. It's certainly for older than 40 year olds but it's great fun.

I think it's called walking football because nobody can actually get 2 feet off the ground at the same time anymore. 😁

I couldn't recommend it more strongly.

it's in a sports hall at Leith Community Centre upstairs at the Kirkgate so just trainers, shorts, tracksuit or whatever, let me know if you need any more info.

I wear track suit trousers and sweatshirt with trainers.

Some folk are in shorts already but I'll wait till it's warmer.

Where to begin :greengrin

If you are thinking about it do it … if you aint thinking about it, still do it. I've been playing for over 3 years now and its the best thing I've ever done, I've lost about 2 and a half stone without even trying or changing my eating and ( especially ) drinking habits.

I hadn't kicked a ball for over 10 years when I started and I was astonished to find how unfit I was when I only lasted half an hour of my first session …. Now I play for my team at tournaments sometimes playing 5 or more 10 or 15 minute games one after the other without any problem. In fact one of the biggest problems with walking football isn't new folk finding it difficult to walk, its folk whose fitness has increased so much over the months of playing that they cant help running.

If you get into a group like mine in Gala you'll find that the social aspect is just as much fun as the playing, we have about 6 booze ups a year and have played in a tournament abroad with plans for more.

Just do it :aok:

Oh and PS ….. If you get into tournament football you will soon find out just how out of touch your perception of walking football was … its ultra competitive and I have the bumps and bruises and at one point a couple of wobbly teeth to prove it :greengrin

PPS …. One of our members at Gala is the one and only Gordon Rae, a right guid lad he is too.

I play twice weekly in Dunfermline and I love it. We have moved onto running football with little or no contact. Usually we have 8-9 a side.
Defo try it!

It's nothing to do with the cold winter weather.

Considering the effect of 25 years of not playing in my legs, I'm being considerate.

Do you have to walk 500 miles?

It refers to your age, not your IQ

You'll be fine then

MY next door neighbor plays walking football. He was late last week and had to run all the way there.

Kind of defeats the purpose,no?

Aye not bad , had a lot of injuries to regulars recently, usually have five or six a sides, not a big group.

I fancy trying this but unfortunately I can't get time for the Thursday session.
Are there any sessions on other days, or is it Thursdays only ?
