New Rules from next season. (https://www.edinburghnews.scotsman.com/sport/football/hearts/the-major-football-rule-changes-that-will-impact-hearts-and-hibs-next-season-1-4891038)

Not seen much chat about these changes. Especially like this one :

Quick free kicks

Teams are now able to take a quick free-kick even if the offence is to be penalised by a yellow or red card. The referee can show the card at the next stoppage in play. The IFAB state: “Occasionally, an attack is stopped by a cautionable (YC) or sending-off (RC) offence and the attacking team takes a quick free kick which restores the ‘lost’ attack; it is clearly ‘unfair’ if this ‘new’ attack is stopped to issue the YC/RC. However, if the referee has distracted the offending team by starting the YC/RC procedure, the quick free kick is not allowed.”

Understand the YC but how does the Red Card work ? For example, the ref allows the attacking team to take a quick FK, who go on the attack but the player who should have been sent off makes a last ditch tackle, diving save or yet another offence to prevent a goal ??

How can you have the game going on while a player who should not be on the pitch is still involved ? Utter madness !

That's an interesting one. It almost seems logical, but as you have pointed out there are a couple of logistical issues.

It makes sense with the yellow card, and it already happens that advantage can be played and then at the next break in play the offending player gets their yellow card - this just seems like a slight tweak to that rule. I don't recall ever seeing an incident where advantage was played, the same player commits another foul and then gets 2 yellows at the same time for different incidents but it's theoretically possible now. :dunno:

The red card one they would probably have been better leaving it as it is. As it just gets messy at that stage. Is it a rule currently that play gets stopped to issue a red card? I've never seen a retrospective red or second yellow being given, but not sure if that's just by chance...

It's the attacking teams perogative whether they want to take the quick free kick or wait for the ref though. Assume if it's bad enough to warrant a red the aggrieved team won't be thinking about a quick free kick whereas if its just a yellow for a shirt pull or something while on the break they may chose the quick option to stop the other team regrouping. In theory it should cut down on tactical fouls. Worth giving it a go and seeing how it works in practice.

That’s the Aberdeen keeper’s tactic at penalties stuffed then.

I'm glad football is trying to make the game better. They might not have nailed this but we need something to get the game flowing as tactical fouls and cheating are starting to take over. Rugby is good at changing rules when player work out how to get round them and everything is about getting a fast moving game with the ball in play. Football really needs to keep looking for ways to make it better. The 6 second rule for goalies was great and now ignored, I'd like to see something around goal kicks too so the goalie has ten seconds from when the are presented with the ball. A sin bin would be good too for cynical fouls which aren't quite a red. The foul on SJM at St Johnstone last year merited more than a booking but because it was the centre of the pitch the ref bottled it. A sin bin would have been the perfect answer.

Walls at free kicks

Attackers are not allowed to be within 1m (1yd) of a defensive wall of three or more. An offence from the attacker will result in an indirect free kick. The IFAB believe that attackers can “often cause management problems and waste time. There is no legitimate tactical justification for attackers to be in the ‘wall’ and their presence is against the ‘spirit of the game’ and often damages the image of the game”
