I should know this but can a team finishing in the top six before the split end up worse than sixth and vice versa?

Yes most definitely

Not in terms of position no. The team in 6th could have less points than those in 7th but they'd still be in position 6

So a split response........
Does the final table show final positions on points or merit ?

Does anyone know when the post split fixture list will be available ?

Yes most definitely

How? You are in the top six and finish 6th you get the prize fund for finishing 6th and not 8th on points. Considering how harder the matches are are after the split then it’s fair also.

A day or two after the top six is determined.

When they split it becomes two separate divisions so what the team in 7th gets is irrelevant.

That’s optimistic. We’ve had to wait over a week before.

No, if you're in the top 6 then you won't finish lower than 6th - even if teams below you have more points.

Fixtures will depend on how early the split is confirmed, if it goes down to round 33 (we're away to Hearts) then it'll take a bit longer than if it's decided prior to that.

Points, but not sure what you mean by "merit".

I’m assuming he means that any team that gets into the top six.

Basically, any team that gets into the top six at the point of the split cannot finish any lower than sixth. The team in sixth could, theoretically, have x points whilst the team in seventh could have x+15 points. Wouldn’t change their positions though.

No, and for exactly the same reason that the team in 10th place can't finish in the Championship, even if the leaders of the Championship finish up with more points than they do. They're in different leagues playing different teams.

I'm sure a while years ago us and Inverness both applied for the Intertoto Cup when it was still a thing - we'd finished 4th and Inverness 7th but they made this whole convoluted argument along the lines of "we got more points than them, so we should get in". UEFA told them to bolt and we were accepted.

So let's finish in the top six.

Yeah your correct. What I meant was that the team in seventh could end the season with more points than the team in sixth. But they still stay in their pre split positions. I’m sure it has happened before.

Of course. Or else we would want to finish in the bottom six, skelp all the dross and over take the teams above us while they have to play the OF etc :greengrin

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012–13_Scottish_Premier_League

Bottom line is you stay in the same half of the league at the time of the split. Makes sense really if you have 5 games against much weaker or stronger opposition.

Both. Merit until the split. This locks in two mini leagues. Then points within those leagues.

So yes, a team in 7th can have more points than 6th, but cannot be higher than 7th in the table.

Almost a certainty to happen this year given how tight the middle of the table is.

A day or two after the top six is determined.

After The Rangers and Celtc have approved it.
