Raised his hands? He’s lucky the boy stayed on his feet. If he’d made more of it the ref wouldn’t have had any choice.

Sending off a player who's defending himself against a drunk/drugged up 'fan'. Are you on the wind up?

Whether I am or not he raised his hands (first - not defensively) and I believe the rules say that’s a red. Even if he was defending himself a red card is the normal outcome.

I don’t think Tavernier was that aggressive tbh. Attacked the guy yes but not enough force to kill him.

She is the appropriate authority. It's Easter Road. We have a responsibility to control our own supporters.

We don't have a responsibility to control our own supporters.

We can prevent, react, ban people and issue statements of apology.

But ultimately only strict liability would equate to having the authoritive responsibility of controlling our own fans.

Don't know if anyone remembers the "you are the ref" series of cartoon strips, but they were all about the laws of the games in unusual situations, and you had to decide what you thought was the correct response, before you found out the answer.

There was definitely one that had this exact situation - a player is confronted on the field by a supporter and hits out to protect himself.

Correct response by the letter of the law in the game, is a red card to the player (I think for violent conduct).

As mental as that may seem, it is the correct action.

Young Mr Tavernier’s situation last night reminded me of my chum’s unfortunate incident at B&Q, when the assistant asked him if he wanted decking. Fortunately my chum got the first punch in, but it just shows you can never be too careful https://abs.twimg.com/emoji/v2/72x72/1f914.png

No idea about the fan, but wasn't even a hint of Riordan getting any grief. Pretty sure a handoff from a player to a pitch invader isn't something that is worth pursuing for any punishment...

What seems common sense to us might not be seen as such in law. Always better to avoid confrontation by moving in the opposite direction, not as if the hun was cornered.

Reading through this and tin hat firmly on here. If an opposing fan had ran onto the pitch and done that to one of our players we would be shouting from the rooftops. Yet a supposed hibs fan does it and some on here blame travernier and some are saying a lifetime ban is harsh or the what aboutery of the orcs last night. We laugh and take the piss out of certain clubs about their fans behaviour and their what aboutery yet deem it fine to do it. Me personally after everything over the last 2 weeks with the 2 Glasgow teams it is unacceptable behaviour from so called fans and I hope both get life time bans. We as a club don't need or want that type of behaviour.

No one seems to think that the referee had a choice to make, send off Tavernier, do nothing or pull the plug on the game!!!
Sending off Tavernier could have caused more trouble, doing nothing, which he did, or pulling all the players off the pitch as he felt the stadium was unsafe!!!
Glad he took what I think was the best decision, but the other alternatives could easily have happened after last week!!!!!

Won’t be the last person to invade the pitch.

Even the guy who ran on from the Rangers stand at Inrox to confront Scott Brown - not stopped Rangers fans invading the pitch after they score at some stadiums this season.

Look forward to hearing how much damage was caused to the South Stand.

Not saying it wouldn’t have happened but less away fans would be a less poisonous atmosphere at the ground and surrounding streets. We took the ££ and will now have to pay ££ for the fine for invading the pitch. A week after paying for new CCTV.

Also noticed a hun fan was escorted out at half time also.

How will we have to pay a fine for the guy coming onto the pitch?

We don't have strict liability so I don't see how Hibs can be punished.

If no fines then the authorities really need to step up and introduce fines otherwise it will keep happening - fans entering the field of play at any time.

Was Stack sent off when he took on the pitch invaders in the Netherlands?

I'm of the opinion that there is no way you can say the guy was ”attacking” Tavernier but he shouldn't be on the pitch and was close enough to Tavernier to justify him taking action. He should also be banned. And whilst we are at it, put in some sort of drug rehabilitation programme and sent to a dentist.

You can celebrate or get angry and not make what is quite a significant effort to go on to the park. What happens after that would not have happened if you just stayed in the stand. It’s really, really simple.

Personal responsibility.

After the bs of 2012 post the already bankrupt yams 'win' we can be excused for the undoubted exuberance and elation of our untainted fairly won Scottish Cup win 2016.
