There are always "suspected packages" laying around just before a general election or referendum. Got to vote for them tories who want to put soldiers out on to the streets.

Geezus.

Why do they called them "suspect packages"?

Because they don't have to say what's actually in them. They could just be regular packages that they claim are "suspicious". Because it generates the desired headlines and fear mongering.

Fall for it if you want to, but i'm not.

It's called a suspect package because they suspect it might be sinister, but they don't know what's in it.

Otherwise they'd call it a suitcase. Or a bomb.

Well in that case, aren't all packages "suspect". Because they don't know what's inside any package until they open it?

It would be interesting to see what information they went on to determine that the package was suspicious. But the public aren't being given that information.

There are numerous considerations given to packages to determine if they are suspect - The 6 S's; Size, Shape, Sender, Stamp, Stain, Smell.

If a staff member notices something off with a package then they'll correctly report it as a suspicious package and appropriate action will then be taken by the authorities.

Given there were a few incidents in London earlier this week of Improvised Explosive Devices being sent then people in public hubs (such as banks) are probably on higher alert for anything slightly out of the ordinary.

Of course, I could just be a Tory plant sent to say all these things and deflect from the obvious conclusion that it was all made up to influence an election that isn't happening. :greengrin

Are you serious? FFS. :bitchy:

A package lying, on its own, in a place it shouldn't be is suspicious.

Whether it's a parcel, a holdall or a suitcase.

Go and fill a holdall with books or bricks and leave it at the back entrance to a bank or a government building.

You'll soon find out what suspicious means.

I'm seriously getting worried that you're becoming more and more paranoid.

About 15 year ago a suspect package was found outside our local off licence. The road was shut for hours and me and a mate manged to walk through a wooded area to get a view of the shop. We were stopped by a police man but allowed to stand and watch as it was a fair distance the little robot thing examining the bag. It turned out to be an old ladies shopping in a trolly, but she had covered the top in tinfoil for some reason. It looked suspicious and all the precautions taken above I would beleive is standard.

Ok, so you're being deliberately obtuse.

Regarding laughing at people wetting their knickers over nothing, I had a right good chortle at this;

"Wetting their knickers over nothing" says the person who's concocted a conspiracy theory out of packages that were reported by the police themselves as turning out to be innocent...

An outbuilding next to Lancers.

Is that the toilets there?

I noticed on my walk that there were police and a fire engine there and the road closed, I couldn't really see what it was for though/or see any smoke. There was also a car parked in there (range rover I think) and I wondered if it had been set on fire (a range rover being the stockbridge ned's burn out vehicle of choice :greengrin ) but maybe it was just in the vacinity overnight and wasn't moved when the police came.

Never heard a peep about this one. Given what building is on Annadale Street we can probably guess the reason why no one cared enough to report on it.

It was widely reported. I took more interest because I live nearby... thankfully I was at work when the properties were evacuated. The package was also not found at the mosque but across the road.

I heard that there was a funeral going on at the mosque at the time, and 200 people had to be evacuated.

If true, it must have been pretty traumatic for all concerned.
