Just had a thought.......

Why is it the opposing team that gets possession of the ball after a goal? Surely it should be the scoring team that gets the advantage no?

Why? you've got advantage by scoring, rugby and US football kick it back when they score, in basketball when you score the other team gets the ball too, quite common.

At what other time during the game does the ball go back to the same team who put it out of the normal boundary of play? In the event of an own goal should the game be restarted with a corner kick?

I know it’s common, just wondered if there was a reason for it. It was watching the rugby that made me ask the question because 9/10 times the team who have just scored end up with possession of the ball

So in your eyes, if it’s an own goal, should the other team then get the restart since it wasn’t them that put the ball out of play?

No I would keep the status quo.

Fair do’s. I’m pretty convinced it won’t change based on me posting it on here anyway 😁

Should be a drop ball for every kick-off after a goal. Ref flings ball up and a full blown scrap on the penalty spot.

Teams are allowed to bring on a 6'8" 'drop ball specialist' for it.

The player still standing gets a freekick.

Haha. Or the ball gets chucked in from the sidelines like when u play table football?

That works fine in Aussie Rules 👍

Don't be daft, if we were playing Barcelona we'd never touch the ball.
