The 16 year old who abducted, raped and killed the 4 year old wee lassie in Brute has been named.
Little ******* deserves to be named IMO, absolutely sickening crime. Hope his life is a living hell in jail.

What's the advantage in him being named?

What's the advantage in him being named?
I'm puzzled by this. In the public's interest that he was named.

Why shouldn't he? Why should the little ******* be protected and hidden.

I'm answering for LP,he wasn't arguing as to why he's been named, just why.
What justice you want served on him won't make a difference as to him being named. The prison population would be aware of him named or not.

Makes you wonder what causes somebody to wake up one morning and carry out such an act. It's utterly bizarre. A 16 year old who had his whole life ahead of him throwing it all away to put an end to the life of this little girl who had her whole life ahead of her. I just don't get it.

Hard to know exactly how the mind of such a sick, evil and twisted individual works and to be perfectly honest, I don't think I want to know!
Absolutely horrific stuff.

i suspect he will spend most if not all of his incarceration in solitary, that poor wee kid

Protected and hidden from whom? The local community know who he is, and so did the Polmont community. Knowing who he is makes no difference to me, and I'm not sure what difference it would make to others.

But understanding why it happens, may be the solution to prevention. Locking somebody away forever stops them from being a further danger, but it doesn't get rid of the overall problem.

Nobody can ever prevent or 2nd guess such heinous crimes, sadly.

Were he not named now, his name would have been reported on his 18th birthday, so in practical terms naming him now makes no real difference.

It was mentioned in court his name has been available on social media for months and a Google search would reveal it. I suspect naming him is, in part, to avoid having to pursue those who named him, retweeted the name and so on. On the balance of probability if his name was already known in the local community, the prison and widely available elsewhere it's unlikely to put him or his family at increased risk.

I think it's only fair to the wee girl that everybody knows who the monster that killed her was, but that we remember her name and not his.

Only the top psychologists and psychiatrists could get close to determining what caused his mind to become so depraved, but I imagine that pornography being so freely accessible will have had something to do with it.
Having said that, men have always been sexually violent towards women. Jack the Ripper didn't need fetish websites or PornHub to motivate him.
That a 16 year old would feel so overwhelmingly compelled to rape, torture and kill a little girl, knowing as he must have, that it was very wrong, and that he would lose his free life as a result, is so very hard to understand.
He now faces a life surrounded exclusively by sex criminals, hated by the rest of the prison population, but guarded from them, for the rest of his life.
I used to understand why society didn't castrate monsters like this. I'm struggling to remember right now.

I think the abuse of power angle plays a hige part. There are people who have an overehelming urge to control others and it's often found to be a far bigger factor in rape than any sexual pleasure (or the feeling of power is the pleasure). A 16 year old has overwhelming power over a disorientated and scared child.
I was totally horrified during the week to read a letter 2 traditionalist Catholic Cardinals wrote to the Pope on the eve of arguably the biggest step forward in a generation in tackling abuse in the Church. They claimed sexual misconduct and paedophilia was nothing to do with clericalism or avuse of power but rather caused by a 'homosexual agenda'. Quite how that links with sexual violence against young girls and Nuns by Priests is beyond me. It's a nonsense argument borne out of prejudice.
I think it's hard to conprehend just how someone gets to ths position of getting a sexual thrill from forcefully exerting their power over another. I understand there are consenting adults who enjoy such things in a controlled manner but how does someone take that to the point of removing consent, knowing the consequences for themselves and the victim but proceeding anyway?

I just watched the sentencing video.
It really was an utterly horrific crime of absolute depravity. You could see even the Judge struggling to keep himself in check at a couple of points. The complete lack of emotion and his admission he had to 'zip his mouth' to avoid laughing during the trial is frightening.

Yip, saw that too. A good advert for capital punishment, but that is a whole other debate

It wouldn't apply to a sixteen year old anyway. Legally he is still a child himself.

That's kind of the thought process that first springs to mind.
What he did was horrific, is he any more a bad person than Begum? Although not personally involved she seemed quite easy about the Manchester terrorist attack etc.
I'm not making light of his actions, just attempting to debate by making that equation.

It's illegal under international law to execute someone for a crime they committed when they were under 18.
He should spend the rest of his life in prison though.

Personally I'd rather be executed than face what that guy has to face up to over the next few years.

He should get the sentence doubled for having the audacity to put in an appeal.
What an utter $cumbag.
