Looked pretty poor yesterday, much worst than last season from what I can remember? Wonder what's changed

We’ve had a wee cold snap recently, that wouldn’t have helped but I agree the pitch looked a bit rough.

The pitch is fine for mid-February. Far better that than the terrible plastic pitches at Kilmarnock, Hamilton, and Livingston.

Not just in February though.

Granted my opinion is only from watching on Hibs Tv at 2 in the morning, but a few times the missus and I have commented on how bare it looks when we see a close up.

It did look crap yesterday. I’d said a few games ago it looked really good so it must have taken a hammering in the Raith game?

Still looks a bit rough but better than last week. The winter spell done a number on it but it looks like the greenkeepers are on it.

Always surprised we think it's a good idea to get 40 kids to run about one corner of it for 10 minutes every half time.

Agreed. Lets get the full Pipe Band marching up and down the pitch pre match and half time like the good old days.😉😉😉

Didn’t think it looked too bad from West Upper, but not getting a close look from a more elavated position. Flo Kamberi had remark about the pitch being a bit bumpy, so the pitch is obviously not brilliant at present.

I'm not saying this is true but I heard Lennon used to pop along to ER each night with grass seed and a watering can.

This, in conjunction with seagull poo which acts as an excellent fertiliser, maybe the issue?

Perhaps we are seeing the real effects of his departure?

Like I say, not saying this is true. Just what I've heard.

It didn't look to be too bad from my watchtower high up in the West Upper. It certainly can't be blamed for some of the more bizarre passes/crosses.

However I've since heard on the grapevine that austerity has hit the grounds staff and they're now cutting the grass with £1 scissors which were purchased from B&M's.

I thought it looked the best I have ever seen it earlier in the season but it is very bare on the West stand side. Still a decent surface though for this time of year

If only we'd put him on gardening leave instead of not sacking, not mutually consenting and not resigning.

The pitch was very good until the winter break and has gone drastically downhill since.

Not sure what's gone on there as the weather hasn't been all that bad.

Maybe he was turfed out afterall.

In all seriousness the pitch has been excellent last few seasons all year round. No expert, but does a pitch have a lifespan before needing replaced?

The pitch is effectively ‘replaced’ every year in that the whole surface is covered in top soil and sand and reseeded.

They don’t go quite as far as Wimbledon do with their tennis courts who literally rip the surface up and start again every year but it’s still a substantial restoration / renewal that gets done every summer.

High stands with low sun means virtually no sunlight gets to the pitch. English clubs shine the pitch with lamps through week to keep things growing. I think we do have some for the goalmouths.

Thought it looked poor against Raith and I’m suposred it’s not better as we haven’t had that many games on it recently.

It wasn’t helped by David Gray’s tackle that left a huge gouge about three feet long!

I heard Lennon actually suggested to Dempster that a Dyke should be installed for drainage and it all kicked off from there.

Its in its worse condition this season, but still much better than any synthetic pitch we will play on in this league.

Pitches have come on in the last few years, and i cant believe anyone would prefer plastic over our pitch, even in its current condition.

Pitch was poor but no worse than any other grass pitch I’ve seen in the top flight this season.

I think all top flight clubs should consider a move over to Astro. The only reluctance I have is an environmental one.

Yes but then Tam Mcourt said we should use the muff diver to unblock the drains we already have. Leanne went tonto - but Tam was too good to suspend.

Even the Motherwell pitch today looked far from great, and they had a fantastic pitch earlier in the season
Must be something to do with the weather we’ve had last year or so. Beast from the East wrecked crops last year

We have had a good few sharp frosts, I've played some golf on the East Coast and the ground was even hard there. Grass won't grow if the temperature drops below 6 degrees.

If we still had the slope all the rainwater would have drained off much more efficiently and the pitch would be looking awesome, just like it did in the 80s.

Is it possible Neil was strict on only using the pitch on match days, and now things have changed.
