That’s brutal for him, hope he makes a speedy recovery as he’s destined for the top.

Hopefully the (very) bad news is to be followed by an announcement of a new CB.

****. Need at least two CBs in now if Milligan is leaving.

That boy is a class act.

Gutted he’s out for the season but I reckon the teams going to be built around him going forward

Best of luck with the recovery, Ryan. Look forward to your return next season.

Not really, Matty. Imagine they'd released it before the news on McNulty :greengrin

Shan news. You have to question Lenny for leaving him on against Livi when clearly injured.

The cynic in me thinks it’s very deliberate.

We’ll see a ‘Hibernian are delighted to announce the signing of centre back......’ within the hour.

He was in the bed next to Jamie Walker after surgery on Wednesday.

The way his initial injury was handled was probably reason enough to discipline Lennon in some way. Some of the stuff he was coming out with about players playing through injury was madness.

Hope the lad comes back strong.

Ridiculous that he was left on the pitch against Livi. Hopefully he comes back stronger next season.

Lennon has a lot to answer for said it on here at the time the treatment of young Ryan was appalling

do you think Lennon made these calls without consulting the player and the medical/physiol staff...he had trained that week. Player and staff declared him fit to play.

Every fan in the stadium at the Livi game could see he should have been taken off.

He put pressure on all the players (apart from 2) by effectively saying they were faking injuries. A young laddie keen to impress played on when he shouldn’t have and came back too early after those comments were made.

Or indeed playing him at all. His knee had gone before Christmas and he was only just back.

Of all our youngsters Ryan was the one showing real promise … he has future Hibs captain written all over him, or at least would in the days before a season of promise lead to you ending up at Celtic or in England. Such a shame for him ( and us ) lets hope he makes a full and speedy recovery.

As for the Livingston game. What shocked me wasn't so much the fact that Hibs allowed him to play on after his knee had given way twice, what shocked me was to read after it happened again at Motherwell that Hibs were sending him for a scan with a view to him seeing a specialist. I couldn't believe we hadn't done this the minute it was clear he had a knee problem … folks knees don't just 'pop out' surely there has to be an underlying problem and that should have been Hibs first thought. Given the big noise we made about sports science and dotting the Is and crossing the Ts to make this a better club I cant help thinking we have let Porteous down.

Others here will know more than me, but i would have thought that this shouldn't impact him too much.

He doesnt rely on pace, or trickery the way some more attacking players do, so hopefully its just a minor setback, as he is one of the most promising young players ive seen in a long while.

Also good they have just ruled him out for the season, rather than create unrealistic or unnecessary pressure to make last few games etc

I was thinking about that last night. Young lad desperate for first team football feels his knee pop. By the time the trainer gets on he has thought about his managers comments and how players were at it and is worried if he goes off he might not get another chance. Trainer arrives and he decides to say it seems ok now and he will crack on without mentioning it has popped. I hope Ryan comes back just as good but the way that injury was handled needs a second look at Hibs because there was thousands in the stands could see his knee had collapsed under him.

If this is anything like the original thread, someone will be along in a minute to tell you to get back in you box because the physio knows better than you.

Or maybe, a couple of posters will be along with apologies.

Either way, I agree with you 100%. All the best with the recovery Ryan.

My thoughts too.
He was really hurting for most of the game.Presumably he could have told them he was too bad to continue but as a young lion he wouldn't want to do that.Someone in the dugout should have taken responsibility that day.

Madness to play him and madness from Porteous to launch into a sliding tackle half way up the pitch with no hope of getting the ball.
