A friendly isn't a competitive match.

The OP states competitive match which a friendly isn't.

I should have said though that we have played Edinburgh City before although not since the 1930s.

Is this including the Lowland and Highland Legaue as that would surely take it above 3?

If it's just aS low as League 2 then Annan, Edinburgh City and Airdrie United/the new Airdrieonians would be my guess. That's assuming we are counting them as a new club and not a continuation of Clydebank or the original Airdrie.

Wikipedia is saying that the 1930s Edinburgh City is not really the same club as the current one - maybe someone else can shed a bit more light on this though?

First three posters named them. I had thought Peterhead but was told I was wrong.

Can anyone confirm when we played them.

Ha, ha. Was at that game. Age is a terrible thing.

Thanks for the replies. Little bit relief from all that is going on.

Edinburgh City celebrated their 90th birthday last November which means the were formed in 1928.

So in that case the only SPFL club we have never played in a competitive fixture without being contentious is Annan?

Pretty sure they disbanded at some point. The social club kept going and they took over postal utd, then changed the name to Edinburgh city. Pretty much what Airdrie did to Clydebank but on a smaller level.

Here you are. https://www.edinburghcityfc.com/edinburgh-city-fc/

In summary after going Junior Edinburgh City stopped playing actual fixtures in 1955 when the Embra Council refused to renew the lease on City park. After this the Limited Company carried on trading through the social club. In 1986 a team called Postal United were allowed to start playing as Edinburgh City under the same Limited Company so yes they can trace their lineage back to 1928.

The newer version of Airdrie?

The new version of Airdrie is the old Clydebank, moved and rebadged. Same as Livingston did to Meadowbank.

I think we can all agree that the current Edinburgh City are much older than the Thes

Beat them 4-0 in 2006 in our 2007 cis cup run. Jamie Mcluskey scored a dinked penalty.

No! Meadowbank is the same team as was Ferranti Thistle before that, at no time did they buy out another club they just upgraded leagues!!!!
Meadowbank just moved to Livingston as there was no football team in the top leagues playing in West Lothian and they thought they would get bigger crowds.
And we all know how that worked out!!!!

Yeah but one guy, Bill Hunter, bought Meadowbank and moved and renamed them against fan opposition. Same with Clydebank, Jim Ballantyne bought them against the opposition of the handful of Bankies fans and renamed them to replace the old Airdrie. So the process was the same even if the motivation was different.

There were 4 up until around 2 weeks ago. That was the first time we’ve played Elgin.
