Can I just say well done Neil Lennon in convincing him to come to Easter Road. There would have been a host of clubs wanting him back here and every other support outside Glasgow (maybe Patrick and QP) would be made up by this signing.

Hopefully this young lad can propel his career and us up the league. Great signing if even for only 6 months. Apparently Flo mentioned big Marv is looking like his younger self and getting fit so. A good balance will be important in midfield. Marv, Mallan, gauld and Allan sounds good. Although all of these guys play through the middle. Who out wide?

Really happy about that. I remember when he was at Dundee United one of his teammates was talking about his footballing brain, after a game when he got an assist they asked him why he didn't shoot himself. Apparently he'd spotted the defenders step had taken him slightly off balance stopping him from being able to intercept a cutback so he played the pass.

Impressive split second decision making.

Exactly, even McPake coming in on loan helped us stay up that season. Loan deals are great when the player has a point to prove, even if it is to get their name out there for a transfer, they need to perform well to do that. Complete win-win situation.

Which is why I will reserve judgement for the mo to see how he slots into a midfield in which we already have more than our share of wee men/lightweights. If he is a wee toughie with a good engine, great.

That is actually pretty impressive

Very impressive.

It's one thing being able to speak a foreign language, it's quite another to be able to understand someone speaking to you in a foreign language, especially if that person is speaking in their local dialect or saying certain words in their own slang which a non native speaker may not necessarily pick up.

Most Scottish footballers don't play abroad, never mind learn a foreign language. Fair play to him and being able to speak Portuguese will stand him in good stead later in life when he's looking at career opportunities after he's finished playing.

I fail to see how speaking Portuguese will enhance his career opportunities, unless he goes back to Portugal or Brazil.

Not one of the more popular languages out there.

It hasn’t worked out for RG in the way predicted, but there’s no doubting his talent. However, we have to be clear that this is a football rehab job, and those don’t always work out. But when then they do and a genuine player starts to perform at the level of their ability, it’s a fabulous thing to witness. Let’s hope this is a Scott Allan scenario.

Only the 6th largest inthe world which puts it above Russian. Also spoken in Capr Verde, Madeira, East Timor, Macau, Angola and Mozambique to name a few.

It would not be a huge leap and I’d imagine he probably does speak Spanish so that combined with Portuguese and English is pretty good coverage.

Plus He’ll be able to swear at Scottish refs and get away with it ;)

Not one of the more popular languages out there.

Portuguese is the 9th most commonly spoken language in the world, using the most recent estimates. It has a not too dissimilar number of speakers as French and more speakers than German and I'm assuming most people would consider being able to speak either of these languages to be beneficial.

Obviously the number of Portuguese speakers is helped by the large population of Brazil but it is also the official language in eight other countries worldwide and widely used in many others.

Due to Brazil's size and influence in South America, Portuguese is widely spoken as a second language in several other South American nations and is an official language of the South American trade bloc.

Due to Portugal's colonial past, it's also an official language in countries in Africa and Asia so it's certainly a language which has a global reach and I think that with Gauld being bilingual will help him when he's looking for work after he finishes playing.

Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese are very different. Much more so that say American English. I know because before moving off to work in Portugal, I learned (what I thought was) Portuguese. It was useless!

I’ve no idea how these things work but I’ve always thought international clearance was something required when moving between two different associations, including coming from England? Could be wrong though.

Gauld done well today. Can see there’s a good player in there, will be interesting how he does against better sides.

Further research would indicate you are right... English regs, but probably the same in Scotland as it's a FIFA thing

Victor Pallson. I thought we’d signed an absolute god from his first few appearances. To be fair he’s done quite well for himself since - was FC Zürich captain when they won the Swiss Cup last year. Coincidentally he’s also at Darmstadt now.
