I'm now working in Glasgow city centre and on noticing that we're playing Celtic in midweek decided that I might as well take advantage of the convenience and go. My question is to more seasoned travellers - what would be the best way to get to and from Parkhead from the city centre? In addition, are the locals bothered about us wearing club colours on the way to the ground?

You can get the 267,263 or 2 bus

You can also get the train to Dalmarnock

Taxis are fairly cheap in Glasgow

And it's normal for people to wear green and white or blue scarves there

It's walkable from the city centre, if you don't mind a hike. Takes about half an hour.

Last time I went (a wee while ago) I got a taxi from Queen St and it was about a fiver I think.

I've also got a bus back to Queen St from there, but only because I left with about 30 minutes to go as we went 5-0 down.

Pretty sure I've walked it too, and as others have said, it takes about 30 minutes.

The only place I’ve ever had trouble with a green and white scarf was Motherwell, where some of the locals lobbed golf balls at my dad and I when we got out of the car.

If you are going to walk, the Gallowgate avoids the worst of the Sevconian establishments on London rd and Duke st.

Can also get the 61 and the 255. If the weathers OK then its best to walk it. Wouldn't worry about colours.

Walking from the city centre, you shouldn't be near Duke ST.

If you start at Queen St station and walk along George St you come on to Duke St. Then for CP you would turn south at some point. If that was at Duke St station you'd be close to the Louden and you'd already have passed a fair few Hun pubs. I used to live in Dennistoun so I'm not making this up!

There'll be 60,000 people on the way to the stadium, most of whom will be wearing a green and white scarf.

The dangers of walking around Glasgow wearing Club Colours is totally exaggerated. I live in Glasgow and attend almost every Hibs game, home and away, and have never had anything (recently) but a bit of light-hearted banter.

In fact, the last time I went to Celtc Park, some Celtc Fans in the City Centre made sure I knew which bus to get on and where to get off for the away end (without even being asked)

What Keekaboo says, in spades. You'll be perfectly safe walking to Celtic Park with a Hibs scarf on. Would you batter some Celtic fans walking from Waverley to ER? No, so the same will apply in reverse.

I seem to remember getting the low level train to a "misnomer of the Millenium" station called Bellgrove (there was nothing "Belle" about the surrounding area) and then walking.

Dalmarnock station is also very close to Celtic Park. Low Level from Central

Why would you take that route though? Walk from queen street down through merchant city and then straight 15 minute walk from there. Route your suggesting is a lot longer and a bit dodgy.
As for wearing colours, 90% of celtic fans will just think its a celtic scarf you've got on.

It`s an easy walk to Celtic Park, and not one that will bring anyone problems if wearing Hibs colours. We usually break the walk up with a couple of pit stops for a pint, and similarly, never seen any problems with Hibs colours in the bars we`ve frequented.

I’m not suggesting it, I’m saying avoid it!

Certainly not longer though, check google maps.

Agree there is no problem from Celtc fans but Celtc fans do occasionally get jumped, particularly on London rd. And I’m sure Hibs fans would be fair game too. Stick to crowds and the gallowgate would be my advice.

Very close to Celtic Park, but even with 50,000+ Celtic fans in attendance few head up that way, I walked to Bridgeton after a midweek game and had a pint in one of the loyalist pubs just to see what it was like (obviously not wearing colours) and the streets were deserted.

Avoiding that most Hunnish of areas is good advice, no issues on the other route via Gallowgate, and quite a few pubs to stop off at enroute.

I live in Hamilton and go to Celtic park most away days. I always wear my scarf and quite often Celtic fans will attempt a conversation with me. Never had any problems. Like someone else said, avoid duke street, it’s a Sevco land.

Having worked in the east end for while, avoid Duke St. like the plague!
Red, white and blue kerbstones, red hand flags flying from lamp posts and then you have the Bristol Bar, one of thee most hardcore loyalist establishments you could find.
Not an area for green and white scarfs, or openly gay people, black people, Asians, SNP/Green/Corbynista activists or basically most straight thinking people.
Tommy Robinson would love it though.

I've just seen that the next round of the Scottish cup is on the 9th of Feb so what happens to these games if all the "big teams" get through as that means loads of games will need to be played on the Sunday with everybody playing on the 6th.

Bad planning yet again..

I got kicked unconscious in the Gallowgate after a trip to Pee-Heid. By Celtic fans. GRI for the whole weekend. 3-1 game 04/05. O'Connor, Sproule and Broony.
Drive, get a taxi or avoid the whole place like the ****ing plague.

Edit... It was actually closer to Trongate on the way back to Queen Street.

Park in Swanston Street next to Dalmarnock Station.

It's then a 10 min walk up the Clyde Gateway to Parkhead, easy peasy 👍🏻

Be careful in these car parks as they have a time limit which is enforced. I think it may only be 2hrs....

I parked in Swanston street for the game earlier in the season and had no issues at all. Lots of folk parking there.
