Couldn’t find an old thread about places to go for a walk so thought I’d put this up.
At this time of year many people are looking for a place to let them get out the house for an hour or two.
My suggestion is to visit the Innocent railway and walk through the big tunnel. You can start at Parkside Street and walk all the way to Duddingston or do it in reverse. The tunnel is at the Parkside end of the walkway.

I always like to go to Linlithgow and walk round the loch.

Just about to go along the water of Leith walkway Roseburn to Stockbridge.

It's a lovely walk, but I don't think I've ever done it without a diversion or 2 along the way and a notice about work being required to make the section safe.

I'm out of the capital at the moment, but maybe a Lomond hill walk tomorrow. :aok:

Had a stroll along Portobello prom and surrounding area. Now enjoying a lager in a local hostelry.

Love Boxing Day. Relaxing, family orientated and fun without the pressure of Christmas Day.

It’s still like that and has been for about 3 years there’s a diversion through the houses.

We should start encouraging a few tourists to walk the route and it will be sorted in no time.

There was plenty today seems people ignore the signs and walk it anyway.

The last couple of years we've gone "Christmas egg hunting". We live next to a golf course and on boxing day it's always empty. A 2 hour walk in the fresh air in a pleasant landscape and 143 golf balls as loot to boot. The boy loves it and it's a great opportunity to get him back outside after the lazy Christmas indulgences.

Done this last year to get the wife into labour, worked a treat

The Dalmeny estate near the River Almond through to South Queensferry is a favourite of mine, very pleasant indeed. Nearby Cammo estate is also a good walkabout and visit.

Another good un is starting at Cramond car park beside the Cramond Inn through the wooded walk along the river ending up at the Miller and Carter steakhouse and back again.

Easy going very pleasant walks that don't include many hills or difficult testing ground.

A crisp morning up Blackford Hill is always a winner.

Round Arthur's Seat or along Porty beach were my two walks. Now it's round the Dean Park or Troon for the beach.

Newhailes estate or Musselburgh lagoons with the dog.

It's even better if you have a well-behaved dog :greengrin

An excellent cycle path, but not sure it's a great walk tbh. The path that follows the road thru the park following pretty much the same route is nicer, you can see the view for a start!

We walked from Edinburgh to Falkirk along the canal this summer.
Not all in one day!
We planned it to link with West Lothian bus routes which we are now experts on!
Highly recommended.

Weather looks good tomorrow - think I'll go a walk. Might take the bus up to the pentlands or just do the water of Leith route out to Currie (done that earlier in the year already).

I like walking (it’s the only thing close to a sport that I’m good at!)

I stay near Blackford Hills and been up it twice! Also fancy a wee walk up Arthur’s seat. I’ve only got trainers though, so I need better shoes for this sort of activity?

Does anyone know of any walks where dogs need to be kept on leads? I’m aware the nature reserve at Aberlady Bay is like that at certain times of year but don’t know anywhere else. I love walks like that but I have a major phobia of dogs so most places are out, particularly when I’m on my own.

Decent walking boots are much better for going up hills, especially in the winter when it gets wet and muddy. I’ve been up Arthur’s Seat in trainers (after a night out at Moray House!) but I enjoyed it more when I did it in boots.

I frequently begin that one at Colinton Park to Currie and back again stopping off at Juniper Green for a coffee in the cafe there on the return journey. Nice one.

Sounds good. :aok:

Think I'll probably just go up Arthurs seat - not done that for a while.

Before I started playing walking football I used to go for walks up the hills around Gala now and again for a bit of exercise … chuck a couple of pieces and a flask of tea into a backpack and disappear for a few hours, very enjoyable :aok:

Back in the day when I had dogs if we lost a derby or a big game I would take them up the hills for hours to ease my depression … worked every time :greengrin

Walking can alleviate depression as being outdoors coupled with light exercise is a good way to begin the journey of feeling better. The link above is for those who may enjoy walking in company with like minded folk. I've never joined one myself as I prefer to walk at my own pace with my companion but I've heard good things from those who have. Anyone can join so I was led to believe.

Used to do Yarrowford up to the Three Brethren then onto Minch Moor and back to complete the circle back in the day. Was fitter then.

About as busy at the top as I've seen it but a lovely walk up Arthurs seat today - beautiful clear sky with perfect views down to Easter road. :aok:
