I think they'll go for Zidane but not sure that would be a great appointment for them. He strikes me as another that'll just strive for instant first team success and just buy world class players to do so.

I get the idea of that and why that is appealing but IMO they should be looking to appoint someone who will build something long term. I personally think they should go for Pochettino from Spurs. Lets face it, he would go and money isn't really an object for them so they'd be able to do a deal with Spurs.

Totally. Showed desperation in appointing him. There's an argument that he could maybe have come in immediately after Sir Alex retired so united got his 2 year cycle at a point when they needed to stay at an elite level and I think he'd have got more out of the group of players Moyes struggled with.

All signs point to Poch. But think waiting till the summer is the right call. Someone has to take a gamble on an Eddie Howe type at some point...

Casillas made an interesting point that while he was correct to suggest he was reaching the end of his playing career nobody really ever suggests when a manager's career is coming to an end.

I know it's a bit different as a player relies on physical attributes but there has to come a point where a manager just simply isn't as good as he was previously, very rarely do you get a Ferguson, a Wenger or even a Warnock.

I wonder if in the modern game most managers, unless they evolve with the changes happening withing the game and the changing room may have a 10-15 year effective managerial career as well.

Jose seems so set in his ways and arrogant i can't see him ever changing. Lets face it though, if you're a top player you would rather play for Guardiola, Klopp, Emery or Pochettino who all seem to have a much better and effective relationship with their players.

Sir David Gray
18-12-2018, 09:30 AM
Not before time it's been clear to me for a while that he doesn't want to be there and their current league position is unacceptable.

To be 19 points behind Liverpool before Christmas is embarrassing, the gap between the two sides is enormous.

They have too many "good" players but not enough world class ones. Recruitment under his watch has been awful and his man management leaves a lot to be desired.

Skybet pay out a manager as ‘permanent’ if they manage 10+ games. Utd have said they’ll put a caretaker in for the remainder of the season so that’s what you’re betting on.

I checked and he was 5/4 and two minutes later 1/2. He’s 8/1 on Betfair but they pay out for official permanent.

I reckon they want Pochettino long term.

No surprise at all - the man was never a Man United man. Far too negative for a team that have always played with style and flair.

IMO, the best fit for Man United at the moment would be Klopp. The man has such enthusiasm and would get even an average set of players playing well. However, he's building something special at Liverpool so there's no way he'll leave that.

I'm not convinced that it will be Pochettino. He's a great manager too, but don't think he's won much as a manager. I feel Man United will want someone with a better track record.

I think OGS is a great appointment by them, i think it's brave but i reckon it'll work.

I know it sounds a bit daft but i think too much emphasis on previous managerial results. Just because his Cardiff team failed doesn't mean his future teams will fail. Every manager has different attributes that will be suited to different players in different situations. It isn't championship manager, there's not a blueprint for success that'll work every time.

From what i can see the Man U players need to be loved a wee bit, they will benefit hugely from someone with softer man management skills and they'll benefit from having someone that knows the nuts and bolts of the make up of the club.

IMO they're good players, he just needs to get them feeling good about themselves again and he strikes me as someone that'll do that well.

I thought he came across brilliantly when we played them earlier in the season so i really hope he is a success.

As poor as Mourinho was some of the stories leaking out do suggest the entire structure of the club is outdated and needs an overhaul. Perhaps it's a legacy of the totally immersive style Fergie had for so many years.

As an example Mourinho was apparently unhappy he couldn't sign Harry Macguire in the summer in part because of Leicesters asking price. I think he has a point when he's said to have asked why none of the 52 scouts Man Utd employ had noticed him playing for Hull a season earlier when he could have been signed for a fraction of the price. 52 scouts and not one noticed a young guy, his name had never been mentioned, who would be an England regular within months? Something is well wrong there.

I'm far from suggesting Mourinho is blameless. His whole philosophy looks prehistoric in the face of the pressing dynamism of modern teams but the problems lie far, far deeper.

The English commentators we get over here have suggested repeatedly that David Gill stepping down at the same time as Fergie did was an enormous loss of knowledge for the club as a whole.....
