That wouldn’t help. They look dispirited enough as it is. A night out might do them good.

I don't see the harm in it. They're not going to have much of a Christmas, and as has been said it may help with team bonding.

I suspect it was more to do with 3 of the starting lineup having played 2 games and then flown half way round the world and 1 of the central defence playing his first game in a couple of months.

Aw the poor lads, I wonder if they will be too exhausted to make the trip to Dublin.

Every time the waitress passed a pint to Flo, he failed to catch it and knocked it off the table.

Fortunately Bogdan caught them all on the way down, so no harm done.

Lennon put Slivka on the flight to Belfast instead and he's not living up to his potential on the night out from over there.

He also had a seat near the wing instead of sitting in the centre aisle where he's more comfortable.

Football is their job so they are entitled to their time off and time to socialise. You can't just force people to turn up to their jobs on their day off?

Lots of top teams have to train day after a match. Lots of teams get told on a Saturday after a terrible performance that your in on a Sunday.

football isn’t a standard job

Did we lose 5-0?? Why would the players Christmas night out get cancelled? Nothing wrong with the attitude, fitness or application as far as I can see - we just aren't playing very well. No need for the team to receive a punishment, I'm sure they weren't happy with yesterday's performance either.

Exactly. Get the tar and feathers out because we’re on a bad run. Some dismal reading on this place these days.

I hear Qantas First class is shocking. The fully flat beds are terrible, no way you can get 12 hours uninterrupted sleep.

Precious souls are writing some amount of ***** in this thread. Would love to see the looks on their faces if some random eejit told them they couldn't go on their Christmas do because of a poor performance at work!

Good point to be fair, they get enough time off. Try being a normal worker and only getting 4 or 5 weeks off a year. Chancers. But on their day off if they want to go to Dublin that's upto them I suppose.

No leaks, tweets, fire extinguishers, Elvis impersonators.

I'd prefer these types of trips to be arranged during the winter break if I'm honest.

I'd rather the players went to Dublin immediately after a game, pish performance or not, than having to rush something in Edinburgh nearer the time and all the potential issues that come with that. I'd also rather they weren't on a jolly during the winter break when they should be recharging the batteries with a bit sun on their back and, fingers crossed, blooding new players into the set up. Ultimately footballers are just employees same as anyone else and are as entitled to a Christmas night out as you or I.

I understand a bit frustration after a bad result but we can't control players 24/7, beyond expecting them to adhere to the same standards as any employee. Them sitting at home all contrite on Saturday night then breaking from a meticulously planned training schedule as a punishment on Sunday isn't likely to achieve anything beyond stoking a bit of resentment among the squad.

Also when is it a good time to go? Do we wait until we get a win just to keep the fans happy?

They have to have their Xmas night and like many on this forum, players need to let their hair down as well.

Hmmm I can see both sides, my team at work do always have that extra spark after an away day I suppose.

Was that this weekend? Saw the picture of Lewis but presumed because Danny Swanson was there that it was an old one.

Some of the team blackened up and went as the Black and White Minstrels, some dressed as Adolf Hitler while the rest wore Tommy Robinson masks but Dempster and Petrie stole the show as Myra Hindley and Ian Brady.

They were OK, but I think Rod would have been better as Brady rather than Hindley.
The moustache spoiled it a bit.
