These have now been confirmed after the Nations League groups finished tonight. We're in pot 3.

Pot 1: Switzerland, Portugal, Netherlands, England, Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Poland
Pot 2: Germany, Iceland, Bosnia, Ukraine, Denmark, Sweden, Russia, Austria, Wales, Czech Republic
Pot 3: Slovakia, Turkey, Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Serbia, Finland, Bulgaria, Israel
Pot 4: Hungary, Romania, Greece, Albania, Montenegro, Cyprus, Estonia, Slovenia, Lithuania, Georgia
Pot 5: Macedonia, Kosovo, Belarus, Luxembourg, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Moldova, Gibraltar, Faroe Islands
Pot 6: Latvia, Liechtenstein, Andorra, Malta, San Marino

There's a couple extra rules - the four finalists are all placed in a group of 5, and no more than two "host" countries (of which we are one) can be drawn in one group, to give a chance of all hosts qualifying. Could potentially be a route through for us directly if we could get our **** together.

However, as per tradition I'm predicting the following groups:
Belgium, Germany, Scotland, Greece, Kosovo, Latvia
England, Austria, Finland, Estonia, Gibraltar

Bring it on!

You just know we're getting Spain and Germany.

We can't get both as they're both hosts, and there can't be more than two in a group.

Belgium and Germany, on the other hand...

But if we win via the playoffs we won't be in a group ?

The play offs aren’t till after the groups and if we get through we won’t be in them. Likewise if any of the other three teams in league C get through the traditional route they will be replaced. We could end up playing Israel again.

The play offs won't be required if we finish in the top two of the qualification group as we'll qualify automatically.

What happens if Serbia qualify through the actual qualifying groups? Who gets their place in the nations play off?

CropleyWasGod
20-11-2018, 10:27 PM
We will. Groups stages start early next year. The nations league finals are June next year. In theory - we could qualify via the nations league and presumably then chillax in the group knowing we're already there. The play offs are in March 2020, after the groups have finished

The best placed team in their group which hasn't qualified through the normal qualification stage.

The 4 finalists play off in 2 semis a third place playoff and a final. The winner of the final wins the nations league. All 4 matches in Portugal in June. The 4 finalists are in a group of 5 because the matches use up 2 of the qualifying match days so they cant fit all the games in if they are in a group of 6.

Doesn't have to be from their group, would be the next best team from any of the section c teams

Apologies if I'm not following but we don't know the finalists until the semis are played (June 2019) and the groups are drawn 2nd Dec 2018

There are 4 ‘semi finalists’ to win the nations league. These are all from league A. These games take place in June 2019, and it’s these 4 teams that will be in groups of 5 for the qualifiers (England Portugal Switzerland and Holland).

Every other play off match will take place in early 2020 (March?) after the qualifiers have been played.

I was taking the P out of HR. There are only 2 semis in the Nations Cup, which was the question.

It's them that are played in 2019

Pray for:

Italy, Wales, Cyprus, Gibraltar, Malta

Italy are very wobbly right now and would be a great atmosphere at the matches. We would need to pick a hearts or hamilton player for the Wales game so we could crock Bale early on :greengrin

Wondering what % of similar such fans forums around Europe have a wish list for their own country's draw which includes Scotland in their pool.

Im not sure that many.....scotlands record at Hampden Park in tornament qulification is actually pretty good. We dont lose many at home.....the issue is the away form.

I'd say it's our results against the "wee teams". There was a great infographic a while back which showed that if we won all our games against teams in pot 4 and 5 we'd either have qualified directly or reached the playoffs most of the time.

Can't we get to play somewhere different, for a change? How about Düsseldorf (https://www.land.nrw/sites/default/files/styles/video_preview_image_big_960x540/public/assets/images/lsbnrw_4203_sportstaetten_31.jpg?itok=-lCEEA_c)?

Ok, to be fair maybe I should have re-phrased it and asked how many will be hoping to avoid Scotland.
However, whilst admitting to be no serious student of Finnish football (ok I know SFA about it), their Nations League results look no' bad and if you take our two legs v. Israel, then 4-4 on the aggregate score, but let's be honest, they were miles better than us over there.
I'll leave it that we will be one of the teams others will be hoping to draw from Pot3.

Luckily for us that can't happen. Only 2 host countries allowed per group so getting England for example in pot 1 would mean Germany couldn't also be in it

What I noticed in the small print of the uefa website, is that if us and England both qualify for euro 2020, we will be in the same group as Hampden and wembley have been "paired" and all hosts get at least two home games...
Scotland v England in Euros at home may be tasty!
