I try to be diligent and check which stories and emails etc are real and trustworthy before forwarding them and I've done a fair amount of research to determine that this is a legitimate scheme.

It may not come to anything in the long run, but when the FT and Martin Lewis are suggesting that the people behind the idea are genuine and sincere, I think it's worth giving it a go.

All that's needed is your name and email address and for millions of people, that's almost the same thing so it's safe to register.

Have a look if you haven't already. If you register, let me know so I can verify you.

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of credit cards that were designed in the 1950s. The system uses its own currency, the Q, and to get people to start using the system once it's ready they are allocating Qs for free to people that sign up now (the amount drops as more people join - so better to join early). Signing up is free and they only ask for your name and an email address. There's nothing to lose but if this payment system becomes a world leading payment method your Qs can be worth a lot.

This link will stop working once I’m out of invites. Let me know after you registered, because I need to verify you on my end.
If Q succeeds it could become more valuable than Bitcoin, and today it costs nothing.

For balance, Martin Lewis actually says...

"The claims that it will have $20 trillion in transactions a year seem more far-fetched than me winning the next Rear of the Year contest (though neither are impossible).

"It's also worth noting that it markets urgency to get people to sign up, with the amount of Qs you can gain dropping on the website. This and other marketing tricks effectively gamify the sign-up, with the refer-a-friend system playing on people's fears of missing out – a little gimmicky for something purporting to be a potential major financial player.

"My assessment isn't based on a great, detailed understanding of the underlying economic mechanics behind the system – after all, the Initiative Q website seems to spend more time on what's wrong with other systems such as Bitcoin than what's right with it. Just the simple rational that most things set up like this don't hit the critical mass of people needed to make it financially viable, and if something sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

Before concluding that there is probably no harm in taking a punt if you use a little-used email address and walk away if they end up trying to scam you. How someone then makes sure that the folk further down the pyramid that they, directly or otherwise, encouraged to sign up don't get scammed is left unanswered.

I did post the link for folk to read the entire article. I'm not trying to hide anything.

I give my name and email out every time I buy something or book tickets, flights or hotels etc.

Even if the people behind the Q initiative weren't known high profile businessmen, I'm not going to get scammed because they can send me emails.

If, further down the line, they start asking for more, then the warning bells might start ringing.

Everything this company does is going to be closely monitored, not just by those interested to see what happens, but by governments and financial institutions across the world, not to mention all the journalists and sceptics who already want it to fail.

I think we're safe.

Initiative Q is an attempt by ex-PayPal guys to create a new payment system instead of payment cards that were designed in the 1950s. If you missed getting bitcoin seven years ago, you wouldn't want to miss this.

Here is my invite link: https://initiativeq.com/invite/HU8MlkikE

This link will stop working once I’m out of invites. Let me know after you registered, because I need to verify you on my end.

Anyone have any confirmation who the “ex PayPal guys” are?

Anyone have any confirmation who the “ex PayPal guys” are?

Initiative Q was founded by Saar Wilf, a serial entrepreneur who started his first payments start-up in 1997, and later founded Fraud Sciences, which redefined the payment security space and was acquired by PayPal in 2008.
The Initiative Q team comprises top experts in payment systems, macroeconomics, and Internet technologies. The idea behind Initiative Q is to first create a critical mass of users, which can then be harnessed to create the world’s best payment network. Therefore, currently our primary focus is to get millions of Q members registered, after which we will recruit the world’s top professionals in the space.

I'm going to be honest, I'm starting to think these Q's won't materialise into real money...

Maybe not and certainly not if people don't get behind it. The way I see it, a name and an email address isn't much to give for "possibly" free money some time in the future. If it all falls in a heap because of apathy or mistrust you've lost nothing

It may be argued that some have lost their dignity.

I'd be interested to hear your reason why?

I'm obviously missing your point but to me that's a very strange thing to say. Tell us what you mean

"There's an outside chance of free money, fancy trying for it?"

"Nah, I don't want to lose my dignity."

don't think so. I signed up loads of people and never heard a peep. I think crypto has probably taken the wind out their sails.
