A very good midfielder very intelligent cultured left foot signed by Bob Shankly from Cumbernauld United and sold to Rangers for a nominal fee.
Hammy found it hard to break into the HIBS team for a decent run and is best remembered as a sub for TTs. He played 96 games(18goals) in total and always performed very well. I remember after he joined Rangers he put in a lot of good performances for them and was a good one touch player.
My abiding memory is that he used to sweat a lot and I remember one game against Patrick Thistle he came over to take a corner NE corner downhill end looked at me and smiled as he grabbed the ball and said “I’m ****ing knackered!”

He returned to HIBS for the last two years of his career playing thirty games Iain Munro's nephews like me attended Oban High School so I remember that transfer well. Left St.Mirren for the second time and played for Stoke and Sunderland in England and eventually ended up back at Hibs via Dundee Utd. Pretty good career in my book.
