Villa is a big step up from Hibs, let's be honest here. A bad start to their season doesn't change that.

I'm not so sure Lennon would want the Celtic job and the extra stress it would bring (again). Or if he took it I don't think it would be an easy decision for him.

It is. And the team doesn't necessarily have to do well for him to win a better move to a better team or onto the premier league. People down south will be watching him after his start. Be interesting to see how much is quoted for him if he is linked with a move especially if we have a sell on

Villa fans seem to be very keen on present Brentford manager, Thierry Henry through his apparent connections with the major investors, or failing those Brenda from our Glasgow chums.

Brenda maybe hasn't missed out on McGinn, he could be his manager, but not in the way we all thought.

If they are looking at Scotland then I think they'll be more keen on McInnes or possibly Steve Clark before Lennon. I don't think any of the above will be on their radar, and while they will want Rodgers I can't see him taking it.

No way Rodgers would go to a Championship club no matter how big they are. Nor will Villa look to Scotland. They need a managed who has experience of the Championship preferably with a record of getting teams in into the EPL. Worries can take their plastic pants off.

Why wouldn't he go to an English Championship club? He came to Scotland and ours isn't exactly the most fashionable of leagues. I personally think he's unlikely to get a Premiership job any time soon so joining a top Championship side probably represents his best chance of getting back to the Premiership. Aston Villa are a huge club and it sounds like they've got money to spend, with no team looking like they'll be running away with that league i think it would be a great opportunity for him.

I also think he's done all he can do with Celtic and all is clearly not well behind the scenes. He'd jump at the chance to join them IMO.

He doesn't come over as a guy with much integrity does he?

soliciting bungs with his son in 2006 is one reason. As well as doing something similar while being the England manager is perhaps another of the reasons he is laughed at.

he does, as you say, have a good record, and that is why he won't be long without a decent job

That said, whilst he gets results...his style in eye bleeding, industrial approach and is not the sort of football that many will want to watch each week. If you are facing relegation you won't care about it, but it is another reason manydont want him as boss

Fair points and i don't disagree with any of them.

The only thing i would say is that most of the premiership teams outside the top 5 or 6 don't play particularly exciting football either. I also doubt if the Villa fans would care too much if he came in and got them promoted to the Premiership.

you right about that aren't you...if we had been murder on the eye but got back up in one season, we would have been celebrating from the rooftops ...

He's not a guy , I (and many others) warm to. Yet his has a lot of admire about him..He is one of the few who has made it from the very lowest reaches of pro football as a coach to the highest...he has been good almost everywhere he has gone..and he is often ignored for some of his forward thinking and innovation around coaching and preparation.. he started and ran a successful building business while still at Bolton etc..so there is a "common working class guy" type about him - Pretty sure his parents were scottish actually, and he was brought up "scottish working class"...yet some other things make you less comfortable with him (some noted previously)..

I suspect he is more sophisticated in his style that he gets credit for...comes over a bit of a student of the game...but he is not the type that comes over well in the media, so that probably creates a negative impression of him..and of course, some of it may be that at times he is a bit of a dick ! :)

Yeah, I remember hearing when he was at Bolton he was well ahead of his time in terms of sports science and analysis, he's also clearly an excellent motivator so i think the players must like him. The perception of him is certainly that he's a bit of a dinosaur and only knows one way to play but there has to be more to him than that.

I don't disagree about him coming across as a bit of a dick sometimes but there is also times i quite like him, there's nothing pretentious about him and I think maybe one of his biggest flaws is not selling himself in the media the way some managers do.

In a strange sort of way there's probably similarities with Jimmy Calderwood up here, he was someone that did a good job wherever he went but he allowed the media to create a perception of him that lead to him becoming practically unemployable.

not a bad comparison...Calderwood somehow seemed to become unemployable into a permanent role after he left Aberdeen...strange if you consider he results with them and Dunfermline.

He had this "old boys club" network style about him , didn't he - the summer holidays to Spain with chic young and that a group of scottish football managers. It seemed to mark him as "old school" probably unfairly...Now is battling alzheimers, wish him well on that journey. Has a good record as a coach/manager.

he is on record of being offered huge money to go to China before he took the Celtic Job..here's what he said recently on a more recent approach..not sure villa would be enough for him

Manager Brendan Rodgers says he has had "a few offers" to leave Celtic after revealing he turned down an approach from a Chinese club during the summer.
Rodgers, who has guided the club to successive domestic trebles, confirmed to BBC Scotland "there was an offer" but "my concentration was with Celtic".
And, speaking after the League Cup quarter-final win over St Johnstone, he insisted he was content at Celtic Park.
"With China it's big money, but I've found happiness here," Rodgers said.
"I spoke with the owners and the board and we found an agreement and moved on.
"I've had other opportunities but I'm very much here and unless the club get fed up with me or something else happens I'm very privileged to be here."

Rodgers is seen as a bit of a trumpet by many in England.

Some flattery about ‘taking a huge club back to their rightful place’ + lack of offers from top clubs + a suitcase full of cash might turn his head.

I have no idea if Villa are interested in Rodgers. But when he does leave Celtc I doubt it will be for anyone in top half of epl.

I think it’s inevitable clubs will start showing an interest in him soon however It wont be Aston Villa.

Suspect that Brentford will appoint a manager with good English league experience. In many ways I am thankful that Lennon had a tough time at Bolton. Although we (mostly) all see what an amazing manager he is, I suspect that he will have to win either a cup or get at least 2nd place in the league to make sufficient waves down South.

I just don't see any signs that he wants to leave Hibs. The board have continually back him. We are seeing the benefits of a settled regime that is about evolution of the club.

The exciting thing is that we all know that the recruitment department will currently be identifying potential targets for the January window and that we can trust their judgement to get it right.

Good times.

Agree. I found it staggering that all that his success at Celtic got him was Bolton in the Championship - I thought a club like Newcastle may have been in for him.

46 games a week is a killer down there - throw in the various cup competitions and you're playing weekend/midweek/weekend practically every week. They tend to like managers with experience of such schedules.
